303 Aerospace Protectant is the best show in town by a mile. Anything plastic or rubber needs 303. I use it on tires too. It's a clean, durable finish on anything.

Further, the formulation in 303 seems to actually address the problem of UV exposure to plastics. It's not just a "check the box" so they can put it on the label. The Aerospace Protectant is a specific formulation to the problem of UV's inevitable degradation of plastics. Use it on outdoor umbrellas, convertible tops, tractor seats, or yourself as a superior sunscreen at the beach. The last one is probably too much, but you get the point.

Since we're on the topic of tonneau covers, do they need any special sort of cleaning before applying a protectant? I have 303 AP which I think will work well, but not sure about the preparation stage. 303 Tonneau Cleaner and RaggTopp Vinyl Cleaner have been mentioned so far. Any other suggestions? Is wash shampoo enough? Is APC too harsh?

Car wash shampoo tends to be a PITA to fully rinse off, but as long as you're aware of that I suppose it shouldn't be much harm. APC does the job, but the specialized cleaners seem to leave a better final finish when dealing with tops in general. [sort of the same difference between using a leather cleaner vs. APC. And if you want to step up the matchup, pin a European leather cleaner with a fruity name vs. APC and see if your head begins spinning. Lol]

Personally, I wouldn't use apc full strength on a vinyl tonneau unless there were obvious stains or stubborn grime. If it looks clean and in good shape, a good car soap should suffice as prep for 303. 303 isn't a sealant or coating so it doesn't require the same level of prep for "bonding". It's more of a protective "dressing" that will require somewhat frequent re-application due to weathering.

and of course, the 303 cleaner would be just fine.

I highly doubt he was thinking about going full strength.

I'd never even heard of diluting APC for various applications until I started reading the AG Forum a couple years ago!
To a rookie like me, this was news. I always figured I could buy a bottle of APC at the store and I just assumed it was properly diluted by the manufacturer.
