I am in the middle of a Auto Glass cleaning research project.


This is an effort to:
- Find the best auto glass cleaner on the market.
- Attain more direct experience with multiple brands and types of auto glass cleaners.
- Discover and rule out products on the market that do not perform as expected nor advertised.
- Learn a few things along the way.

Points of interest include:
- Cleaning ability.
- Clarity.
- Deep Clarity.
- Reflection.
- Shine.
- Scent.
- Surface Cleaning or strictly Auto Glass.
- Eco friendly or not.
- Price point per ounce.
- Specific vehicle type and intended use.
- Hydrophobic qualities.
- Showroom Presentation, Museum Presentation, Daily Driver, etc....
- Application
(Yes, it matters. Some Auto Glass cleaners take forever to buff in to achieve the baseline performance offered by the product).

Approach:
- All products are tested in worst case conditions.
- Product is applied directly to dirty glass.
- At no time is the auto glass pre-cleaned as a result of washing the car.

Application:
Step 1.
- Initial heavy application of product on pane of glass.
- Single passes of microfiber towel folded to eight sides.
- Work from top to bottom, flipping the towel to a clean side for each new single pass.
- Repeat until entire pane of glass is free of surface dirt.
Step 2:
- Medium application of product on pane of glass.
- Wipe all over approach, using microfiber towel folded to eight sides, constantly flipping the towel to a clean side.
Step 3:
- Light mist application of product on pane of glass.
- Wipe all over approach, using microfiber towel folded to eight sides, constantly flipping the towel to a clean side.
Step 4:
- Buff with clean microfiber towel.
- Final buff with a separate clean microfiber towel.

Price Point:
Price is relative to local economy, sales, coupons, etc...
Price is documented, but is relative and subjective in evaluating a product.

This Duragloss product is the latest for testing, and I thought I would offer a snapshot review of this product.

Advertisement:
Glass cleaner.
Removes Road Film, Bugs and Tar

Genral thoughts and Impressions:
- Smells like glue.
- Very sudsy and high consistency.
- Requires extra work to buff in.
- A good decontamination glass cleaner.
- Good glass cleaner, glossy reflection.
- Finished result in clarity is not fantastic, hazy to the critical eye.
- Great as surface cleaner on plastic and vinyl.
- Great job on interior door jams.
- Feel light headed and nauseous after using.

Would I recommend for auto glass:
- Production detailing: No.
- Personal detailing:
1. Decontamination: Yes.
2. Everyday use: No.

Does product live up to its advertising:
Yes.
Note: To a critical eye, I would suggest there is an issue with clarity.
There seems to be somewhat of a haze when looking through the glass in the final result.
However, I would suggest that over time (a few days), the haze seems to dissipate.

Final thoughts.
- Can live without this product.
- Many better auto glass cleaning products on the market, and for less money.
- This product lives up to its MSDS warnings.
I would issue a cautionary warning to anyone who uses this product that you may in fact get dizzy, light headed, and nauseous after using, especially on interior glass and interior surfaces.

My intention is to thoroughly test each auto glass cleaner, and then to write a full article covering the pros and cons of each one.
Also intend to list the top performing products, as well as the poorest performing products.
I originally intended to post this article on this forum, but because some of the products are not sold through AutoGeek, and the fact that this forum is tightening up the rules on that, I am not certain this article can be posted on this forum.

To answer your specific question, yes.
I have in fact tested both the Stoners products included in the picture.
I have actually used and tested more than half of the products posted in the picture.
The Stoners products were the first two I started with, when this project officially began several months ago.
I will offer a very brief snapshot of each product, but will have much more to say later on, as I don't want to reveal too much until the article is written.

Stoners Invisible Glass


Initial impression: (Original notes taken on first use of this product).
- Very disappointing introduction to this product.
- Horrid Smell /Heavy use of solvent. Smelled like Acetone.
- Faint smeary final result. A professional with a critical eye will notice, probably not the average consumer.
- A bit runny to what I am used to (possibly not bad or good).
- Takes forever to work in and then dry, like it needs to cure, lol.
- Buffed the glass over and over and over to get this product to dry.
- Will never ever buy this for glass cleaning ever again.

Final impression:
- Actually kind of like this product.
- Going back to the joke on ""like it needs time to cure", the final result actually improved by the hour.
- After 24 hours there was a very nice, deep clarity to glass.
- The heavy solvent smell is a problem, especially for the interior.
- Ok surface cleaner, decontaminates well.
- Product is excellent on metal and chrome plating.
- Can live without this product for auto glass cleaning specifically.
- Will keep a bottle in stock for its decontaminating abilities, pre-glass polish preparation, and quick cleaning of metals.

Would I recommend this product:
- For production auto glass detailing: No.
1. Production glass decontamination and glass polish preparation: Yes.
- Personal detailing / everyday auto glass cleaner: No.

Stoners Invisible Glass with Rain Repellent:


Initial Impression:
- There is that smell again / Solvent Heavy.
- Much less watery/runny than the other Stoners.
- Buffs in nicely.
- Dries in reasonable amount of time.
- User friendly product.
- Glass looks amazing.
- Great clarity as well as deep clarity.
- Great reflection.
- Great shine.

Final impression:
- Again, much better final result hours after initial application.
- Seems to deliver results that the original Stoners failed to.
- Love this product.
- This product earns a permanent roster spot on the detail cart.

Would I recommend this product:
- For production auto glass detailing: Yes.
1. The heavy solvent smell may pose an issue.
- Personal detailing / everyday auto glass cleaner: Yes.

If it's one thing I hate is a dirty windshield. I can not, and I mean CAN NOT, drive off with a dirty windshield in front of my face. No matter how cold or unnecessary (damp/foggy), I HAVE TO WIPE IT CLEAN before putting the vehicle in gear. My mother commented on it, my lady commented on it, and my neighbors also commented on it. "Every time I see you, you're always wiping the glass."

So far I really like Pinnacle Crystal Clear (thanks to Bigbull2984's recommendation) for its clarity & ease of use, and Mothers ReVision Glass+Surface - as a nice, cheaper alternative to Pinnacle. I've been eyeing 761, just didn't have the chance to grab it. Perhaps my next trip at parts store.

I also have Prima's Clarity, but only used it briefly once to really form a solid opinion. Kinda of grabby, but it does have a nice citrus fragrance, though.

And a quick question - have you heard of Scholl Concepts ICE Glass Cleaning Gel? I was hoping to see it on AG. Heard some really positive reviews of it, and would love to give it a go.

looking forward to your experience with the other products. I have to say Stoner has always served me well, and the smell - not something that bothered me, but each person is different. That said, the Pinnacle's Crystal Glass Cleaner with water repellent is by far and away the best glass cleaner I've ever used, and curious what your findings will be.

Best I've used so far.

I will try the 3M product at some point.

My approach for now is Phase 1.
Testing the Off the Shelf, RTU , Spray Bottle Delivery glass cleaners.
I am including Meg's D120 because of its place in the professional auto detail world.
Also testing the PBMG family of Wolfgang, DP, and Pinnacle because I have always wanted to try these products.
All of these products are applied via spray bottle/spray trigger.

When finished with this round of testing, I intend to continue testing auto glass cleaners, yet keep everything grouped accordingly.
Example:
- Phase 1: RTU/ Off the Shelf / Spray Bottle Delivery.
- Phase 2: Aerosol delivery glass cleaners.
- Phase 3: Foam glass cleaners.

I have heard endless great things about it.

Mothers Revision is one on deck for testing.
I have it, I just have not gotten to it yet.

Prima Clarity is one I considered for Phase 1 testing.
I was trying to limit Phase 1 to 20 products, but have added a couple more.
There are more products I would like to try, such as the Prima, but time and money always factor in to what products are chosen.

I have heard of Scholl Concepts ICE Glass Cleaning Gel.
It is listed as a sealant.
I was trying to avoid sealants and coatings for current product testing.

Scholl Concepts is a all in one type product for glass, similar to Pinnacle's glass cleaner. Scholl Concepts Ice is easily one of the best glass cleaners I have used.

Have you tested the aerosol Stoners Glass cleaner? I use it and like it quite a bit. My friend had the spray bottle one that I tried and it is not the same IMO. Just my 2 cents. Make sure you let us know when you post your full article, and thanks again.

Did you test SprayAway Aerosol? I see that can dirt cheap at hardware stores and Walmart.
