Re: Megs Wheel Brightener vs Sonax Full Effect

for special wheels i use either Chemical guy's Diablo gel or Griots Garage HD wheel cleaner. But for some nasty nasty wheels Wheel brightener is the king. Like someone said, try using those fancy wheel cleaners on a rim that is completely covered in brake dust. You'll see a difference.

Yeah. Its just its presentation and the ability to purchase this stuff is only at one outlet that hurts its use by many others.

Yup, the dude is talking about when you dilute the product for the real cost per oz.

So what if it's brown? If it works, it works. I'm just saying try it.

When I calculated the $0.14 that was before dilution or 18/128 I could of done it with dilution which would be $18/384 (3gal) = $0.04 or even 5 gallons at $0.028. The $0.14 is the MOST expensive it will ever be since that's full strength and it's still incredible cheaper. Using it at 3:1 which is what I do most of the time is almost 25 times cheaper than sonax..now is sonax really that much better?

That statement is incorrect. SONAX doesn't have near the cleaning abilities of Meg's WB.

    This is very true.

Here's a few pics of Meg's WB REALLY in action (pictures were taken after each MINOR scrubbing session):

That wheel was on a F450 - it had previously been on the front turned the other way (dually) and when they got new tires, they swapped the position. So that's about 6X,XXX miles of baked on brake dust.

From experience I can 100% say that Sonax wouldn't have even come close to that in 4 spraydown/scrubbing cycles. In fact, when Sonax FE let me down on a set of bad Bimmer wheels, I bought the Meg's WB.

I am not bashing you at all, but your testing wasn't really accurate. I still like the Sonax, and if I need a "I know this is safe" wheel cleaner, that's what I will go for. However, WB is [like lasthope said] miles stronger than Sonax.

Yes, but I am speaking in terms of Sonax being a better wheel cleaner without scrubbing at all.

Re: Megs Wheel Brightener vs Sonax Full Effect

I might add that the reason for this comparison is because they are both two completely different types of wheel cleaners. WB is an acid based wheel cleaner, while Sonax is a PH balanced wheel cleaner that can be used on any wheel. I apologize for any confusion, as I am human. (at least I think)

Diluted to the proper ratio Megs Wheel Brightener works really well for a inexpensive wheel cleaner. It happens to work quite well if you let it dwell for 30 seconds, but the downfall is you still need to use a wheel brush. It took off 60-70 percent of the brake dust without using a brush or wiping. The daytona wheel brush made the wheel look squeaky clean. Like almost all wheel cleaners a wheel brush and wipe down is always necessary.

    Sonax Full Effect - 15.99 for a 16.9oz Bottle

Right out of the bottle sonax was applied to the audi's heavily soiled rims and let dwell for 2 minutes. Without using the wheel brush 85-90 percent of the brake dust and wheel grime came off with just a spray from the hose. The rest of the brake dust and wheel grime needed to be cleaned off with the Daytona Wheel Brush.

***NOTE: SOME OF THE PICTURES DO NOT DO JUSTICE!!

Both Wheel Cleaners did there job great. Clearly SONAX is a better wheel cleaner, but when push comes to shove Megs Wheel Brightener is a better VALUE. In conclusion, both products still needed the wheel brush to complete the job, so I would choose MEGS over SONAX on the appropriate type of wheel of course.
Am I missing something here? The Wheel Brightener rim looks much cleaner than the Sonax rim. Seems like there's just tar or something stuck on the wheel brightener rim

Re: Megs Wheel Brightener vs Sonax Full Effect

Does Meguiars sell WB under another name in smaller bottles?

The wheels in my car were neglected by the previous owner and I have a few small areas of baked on brake dust I'd love to remove. Regular wheel cleaner doesn't cut it. I'll never need a gallon and doubt I'd ever need it again after this one task since I keep up with my wheels.

Similar alternatives to WB would be good too if it doesn't come any other way. I may just have to go the Brown Royal route as it's available in 32oz bottle. That could be a lifetime supply for me!
