Opti-Coat Hyper-Seal Review

Re: Opti-Coat Hyper-Seal Review
It would be interesting to see the durability of this. Opti-Seal was one of the first LSPs I bought - always liked the application process, but durability and water behavior was always a bit lacking, even then, and more so in comparison to today's products. Hyper-Seal seems to have great hydrophobicity, and if it lasts for 4 to 6 months or more, I'd be fairly happy with that.

I completely agree. I tried Opti-Seal for the first time a few months ago. Loved the application and look it gave the paint but as you said durability and water behavior was not that good. My guess is Hyper-Seal will last a few months, which would put in on par with most of the spray sealants out there other than a select few (Griot's 3 in 1/Adams etc.).
Based on how little you need to use of the product, the bottle will last quite a long time. Can also be applied in sun and used as a drying aide. Jury is still out on durability.

Not sure how on earth they came up with this lasting a year. Terrible.
This guy tested both the original and most recently the latest version. Both perform terribly.

Optimum is one of those brands that through the years has been overhyped.

I think they're just behind the times and others have surpassed them. Optimum guys like to talk about how they have Dr. G making products but he isn't the only chemist in the game. I like Optimum products but HS is very poor in terms of durability and hydrophobics. Water goes flat fast. Guy on FB group is trying to tell me it's protecting and beading isn't good yada yada. He doesn't understand that you can't have fast sheeting without good beading. You can't have one without the other. Can Coat beads like crazy but also sheets water off the surface. Why would I want a product that keeps all the water on the surface?

Re: Opti-Coat Hyper-Seal Review
From what I've read, some companies have their own chemists and others have chemists that they sub contract to do work for them. (Just my opinion), but I've read that Dr G worked for PPG. I have my doubts he's mixing anything up in his lab that is superior to what PPG offers on the market.
