It's a totally different type of product.

The products he's going to be testing out are a series of high durability, multi-year coatings. The 303 product is more like a highly durable spray sealant. Just like many things in this industry, the "coating" label started with a very specific type of product, and when their popularity grew, companies started slapping the term on lots of different products which are nothing like the originals.

It doesn't help that there are now these multi-month spray products now which challenge traditional sealants, ceramic and graphene infused EVERYTHING, "lite" coatings which last around 1 year (i.e. CanCoat and CarPro Lite), and still the multi-year coatings in the little glass bottles.

@Desertnate pretty much answered it for me. I also have zero interest in 303 Graphene.

I would offer a recommendation and perhaps you're already planning to do this,

If at all possible, test all the like or similar products on a hood and/or trunk lid. These are horizontal surfaces where all coatings will get the same exposure to all things. It will also make it more fair to visually inspect and compare.

I've seen other people do testing like this where some products are tested on a hood and other products are tested on a vertical panel and this simply isn't a good way to do comparative testing.

One of the primary goals when doing this type of testing is to have controls in place and as much as possible reduce as many variable as possible.

    For what it's worth...

    Good luck!

    Re: 2021 Coating Test

I had to put this on pause a bit. Nick contacted me so I ordered a bottle of McKee's 37 coating which is his latest as Nick wanted it as part of the test. I am also going to be using the carpro denim pads to remove some orange peel and what not after the repaint. Been wanting to do this for quite some time.
