Speed Master Swirl Finder Detail Light Review

This is a review of the Speed Master Swirl Finder Detail Light. For the purposes of this review I will be comparing it to my current swirl finder light which is the Astro 50SL Pneumatic Sunlight. Both lights are identical in shape and design and both have many similar and unique features that are essential for detailing. Both lights feature a magnetic base and adjustable neck making the light usable in many different situations related to car care. I feel these lights are a must for any type of paint correction, coating application, window cleaning or interior work. The new Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light does have a few features not previously found on the Astro 50SL Pneumatic Sunlight.

    1. The Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light has three light settings that include 2700K, 4500K, and 6500K. The Astro 50SL Pneumatic Sunlight only has two settings.
    2. The Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light is rated at 500 lumens and the Astro 50SL Pneumatic Sunlight is rated at 400 lumens.
    3. The Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light has an “eco mode” which shuts the light after 5 minutes.
    4. The Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light is rated at 2.5 hour use time while the Astro 50SL Pneumatic Sunlight is rated at 3-4 hours.

    Thoughts and observations:

Both the Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light and the Astro 50SL Pneumatic Sunlight are excellent lights. The Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light does cost substantially more money but does offer several features not found on the Astro 50SL. For someone looking for a greater range of light kelvin and a slightly higher lumen output the Speed Master Swirl Finder Detailing Light might be worth the added expense.

    Pictures:

Both lights come with a charging base and a light indicator on the front showing the charge level.

I tried to capture and compare the various settings and light output of the lights side by side.

It doesn't. It needs to be on one of the higher settings. Keep in mind these lights are also designed for body shops to do color matching on paint work.

I guess the Speed Master is the same as the new Astro 50SL Max.

They are definitely nice lights and work better than just having a flashlight. I like being able to change the temperature of the light, different car colors show or hide swirls better depending on color temperature and being able to change helps you find defects you’d miss with a basic flashlight.

Thanks for your time reviewing this product.

How well do these lights work in seeing high spots when applying and leveling off a ceramic coating application?
