Thanks!
Check out this video for the concept. About 1:10 into

Pulled from IGL.
The common behaviour of liquids is that it has a tendency to stick to things, including itself. Therefore, a surface is classified as either hydrophobic (scared of water) or hydrophilic (loving water) by the way it interacts with liquid, specifically water droplets.
A droplet that has absolutely no interaction with a surface will bead up into a perfect sphere and will have a contact angle of 180°whilst a water droplet that completely wets the surface has a contact angle of 0°.

Contact Angle Significance
If the water droplet sticks more to the surface than itself, that surface is hydrophilic and the water droplet will have a contact angle of less than 90°.
If the water droplet has a tendency to stick to itself more than it sticks to the surface, that surface is hydrophobic and water droplets will bead up to a contact angle of more than 90°.

The term superhydrophobic (also ultrahydrophobic) occurs when the effective contact angle of water drops is 150° or higher. There are many examples of naturally occurring superhydrophobic surfaces. These include both plants and insects surfaces.
One of the most notable superhydrophobic surface in nature is that of the lotus leaf. The extreme water repellency exhibited by lotus leaves is what inspired scientists to initially pursue research into superhydrophobic phenomena.
https://blog.iglcoatings.com/wp-cont...er-quality.jpg
Superhydrophobic is used to describe a surface that exhibits both advancing and receding contact angles of higher than 150°.
The angle at which a water drop rolls off a tilted flat surface is known as the roll-off angle. Generally, superhydrophobic surfaces exhibit roll-off angles less than 5°, but very high quality superhydrophobic surfaces can exhibit roll-off angles of less than 1°.

Thank for putting together and sharing Mike. Will be following along.
Re: 2020 Ceramic Coating 1 Year Test
Guz, Thanks for taking the time. I appreciate the info. I certainly learned something!

Awesome info, thanks Guz

Re: 2020 Ceramic Coating 1 Year Test
It has been a little over a month and I am already starting to see some changes in hydrophobics with the car sitting outside 24/7.
Best Self cleaning effect: (Top 5)
Gyeon Syncro. As I mentioned from previous experience its initial performance is top notch. Lets see is it holds out or fizzles out in about 5 months total when Skin starts to show signs of degradation.
SPS Graphene
Cquartz UK 3.0
IGL
Adams UV Ceramic
Loss of hydrophobics.
Drexler Ceramic (Base Coat + Top Coat) - this has turned into sheeting like Gyeon Mohs. Water lays flat on the surface. Seems like it is either an application issue or the top coat is indeed already degrading.
Adams UV Spray Coating - This showed signs of slowing down after the first wash. It has one of the worst self cleaning effects. Turning into sheeting.
Cquartz TiO2 - This has started to turn into sheeting and its water beading has started to become more oblong shape. I believe this is looking like an application error as I have experienced this to perform on par with CQUK 3.0 on my hood for the last 20 months. It is not the first time I see application inconsistencies with it. I am going to leave it for now but I am to the point where I will not be focusing too much on it and will include is with test #2 next year.
The remaining coatings seem to be doing fine.

Hello,
I just purchased cquartztio2. It hasn’t arrived yet. Do you think I will be better of with U.K.? I emailed carpro with another question and they recommended TiO2.

Thanks for the update Guz!

It depends on what you are looking for. For more reflectivity TiO2 beats CQUK 3.0 due to the TiO2.
CQUK 3.0 forks the harder surface while TiO2 offers better stain resistance.
On my daily both have performed the same at 20 months.
In the end it doesn’t matter because people top their coatings with something. So it’s a wash at that point.
Re: 2020 Ceramic Coating 1 Year Test
Interesting that CQuartz Lite is like a mix of those 2

Howz the 22ple stuff doing, HPC vs Insanity?
I'm starting to get a little curiously suspicious of topcoat longevity like Skin, EXO and similar. Although my experience with them is in no maintenance, 'fire and forget' mode. They just seem to fade away somewhat quickly . Gliss V2 is still doing good n top of the CQ UK 3 from last year but it's only accumulated 7500 miles since application. Maybe they just need more frequent and particular maintenance.
Gyeon really needs to sell Skin as a separate product...Syncro/Skin is galactically good right after application.
Good stuff, thanks for doing this.
