Re: First time using us speed - dust

Never had dusting issues with Speed and CCS pads are usually all I use with Speed.

I live in Tampa and use Speed during our HOT HUMID summer and have never experienced Speed dusting. Also, you can adjust the cut of Speed and all AIO"s or polisjes by changing the pad to a more aggressive pad. I prefer B & S Orange pads with Speed, great correction, excellent finish.

If you only used 1-3 pads then you have your answer. It's cause not to swap pads regualary. Sure some pads are better to not get saturated to fast. But they still are going to be that. It's much of different parameters that is the mix from when it's starts to dust. A sure thing when it's time for swap pads is when you see the dusting begins. But I like to have be done that sooner. Depending on how the pad is in part of dirty. I like to have as a clean pad as possible to have it working at it's best. When the air compressor and the brush don't get the pad clean enough I swap it. Sometimes you can do a panel or two but not more than that. Then you save your pads to overheat and wear down faster when not swap them out regualary.

Yeah, I was using an orange Griot's pad because the car is a daily driver with several minor scratches. It didn't correct as much as I needed it to, but I was probably asking too much from it.

    100% the opposite.

    You under applied.

Don't buy into the parroted talk all over YouTube and Facebook and even the forum world of using

    Pea Sized Drops

That's ridiculous. You need some "amount" of product just to provide lubrication to the surface not to mention you need abrasives, polishing oils or agents plus the protection ingredients.

Here's an article on how to prime a pad and while I no longer prime pads like I show in the article, (I show how I prime pads in my classes), I DO SHOW the correct amount of product to put on a pad to work with.

    Here's my article from 2011

How to prime a foam pad when using a DA Polisher

And here's an excerpt from the article and even 7 years ago I did my best to share the fallacy of "pea sized drops"

Adding "Working Product" to the primed pad
Some people will recommend 3 to 4 pea size drops of product as the proper amount of product to use and this can be correct for concentrated products or working small sections and if you follow this advice make sure you are not under-lubricating the surface being worked.

    Pea size drops of product

For some products and paint conditions, you may want more product on the surface working for you. Here's an example of dime size drops of product.

    Dime size drops of product

You need to simply use more product and you'll never see a dusting problem with 3D HD Speed.

I have a class at 3D in Santa Clarita in about 2 weeks. One of the topics I cover in all my classes is

    Production Detailing

That's when you use a CLEANER/WAX on a DAILY DRIVER.

It's knowledge and a skill set everyone that details cars needs to have, be they enthusiasts or pros.

It's going to be a great class. Should be packing for it today or tomorrow.

I tend to use 2. I was lazy on that day and only used 1 because it was so hot out. The fact that it happened from beginning to end makes me thing it wasn't because the pad was used throughout though. Like I said, maybe a couple shots of QD and swapping out the pad midway through would help.

    Thanks Mike!

I started with probably 6-7 drops initially (as instructed on the bottle) and moved to about 3 drops when I felt the product was wearing thin. But I'll definitely try adding more product next time!

Re: First time using us speed - dust

Get yourself at least 6-8 pads, put a 1/4" bead of Speed around the whole pad (about a half inch in from the edge), and go to town.

After the initial section, 2-3 pea-sized drops. Clean on the fly with a terry towel or pad brush, but do NOT let the pad become saturated.

Change to a new pad. Lather, rinse, repeat...........

You'll love Speed using this method.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

When all else fails, check manufacturer recommendations.

Re: First time using us speed - dust

I have only used Speed once, and like you I got excessive dusting by doing a test panel. Everyone said the same thing when I reported my experience: Speed doesn't dust. I think the product I had was passed it's shelf life. It came out as a paste out of the bottle instead of a liquid. I have never used it since.
