Not unless its misted. I dunno, its a concern and I would need a little more validation than "your not gonna decelop it" on the internet.

Something caught my eye a while back, it was Dr.G who said he develops products with his employees and his customers safety in mind, its a major priority.

I agree a respirator should be used when spraying/misting, but not when applying a coating to an applicator and wiping it on. Gloves may not hurt.

Im not sure too many people wear a mask when waterless washing their car, its a concern worth thinking about I think.

im not to sure who dr g is but pinnacle products also have that "safe for you and the environment" rule. i think thier slogan is science and nature in harmony... they dont have a coating either

polish angel sprays are supposed to have "the highest concentrations of scilica money can buy" in all thier sprays. i dont know how all five of them can have "the highest concentration money can buy" though??

I can understand your concern, and my response wasn't to imply that one shouldn't utilize PPE when applying coatings. However, I'd be more concerned about inhaling the petroleum distillates and the kerosene that solubilize the silica crystals before I'd be concerned about inhaling the silica crystals themselves. Silicosis -- acute or chronic -- really is a condition that is infrequent and unique to a certain subset of individuals that develops when exposed to high concentrations of respirable silica. These are people who work in mines, work in the fracking industry, sandblasters, foundary workers and masons. These are people who absolutely need to wear PPE and have rotational exposure to this "dust" that is suspended and inhaled.

When you leave a bottle of a silica coating out, the hydrocarbons, which are volatile, leave behind the crystals and you can inhale the hydrocarbons, which can lead to dizziness, palpitations, neurological deficits and nausea/vomiting. Therefore, applying silica coatings in a well-ventilated area or with a respirator is advised, but not because of the silica.

If you check out the MSDS for CS, Mohs and CQuartz, you'll notice that often the respiratory complications or exposures aren't classified, and that generally means they fall below the calculated risks or data is not definitive.

Knowing the the higher airborne concentrations of silica required to cause acute and chronic silicosis are immensely out of proportion to that during the typical coating application, I highly doubt doing a rinseless wash or QD with some silica-based lubricant in it is of any concern.

Frankly, I'd be more concerned about grinding down the paint with Gyeon Primer or CarPro Essence and getting that powder airborne than I would with any hand applied coating or spray coating.
