Re: Bumblebee - Testing out the NEW DeWALT DWP849X
without a doubt i will be getting the new dewalt. ive been using a dw849 for close to 15 years now. my old 849 was sent out for a repair. the motor was grinding after slamming it on the ground 3 times. its been working fine but its time to fix her up. for some reason this is like my good luck machine & i dont want to retire her.
i do not like flex machines. i havent had good luck with them at all. the head gets too hot. the machine seems to need to take breaks to cool down after compounding for long periods of time.
i think flex is over rated & over priced.
funny thing, when my old dewalt took a crap on me a few weeks ago while i was in the middle of a job i had to order a makita & i started to fall in love with that. i hate the soft start but i love the reduced weight, my left elbow has not been bothering me as much since ive picked up the makita.
anyways, nice review & thanks for sharing with us.
to all of you that are using the new dewalt right now, i am jealous of you!

Re: Bumblebee - Testing out the NEW DeWALT DWP849X
Great review Mike! I've had the new Flex for a few weeks now but still haven't had a chance to try it out....

I found the compound to wipe off easiest if you wiped it off immediately, so set your polisher down and wipe the residue off and it wipe off easy. Wait a little while and it can be a little harder to wipe off but still not bad.
I only used foam pads with all three products so I still need to do some cutting with the compound and wool pads but we'll have a chance to do this during this Sunday's Advanced Class as I usually have out 5 different brands for use with the rotary buffer and Optimum will be one of them.
The other two products worked very well, both finish out leaving a super clear, high gloss finish and while a lot of people might not understand, clarity is a top goal when working on clear coat paints. You need the clear coat clear in order to see the color coat under it and gloss comes from smoothness, so one of the primary goals of any machine buffing is to create smoothness and both products left a clear, high gloss finish, so they're reaching these two goals.
I'm curious if you've had a chance to try the new Opt Polish and Finish on the DA yet. I still need to try them on the rotary myself, but for some reason when used with a DA the Polish and Finish have been a bear to wipe off for me??? I really do like they way they feel and agree that they do produce a very nice clear finish. I may give them a shot tomorrow on the rotary since I need to Opti-Coat a car anyway....
Thanks,
Rasky

Are you talking about the 3403, the 603, or the PE14?

In case you weren't aware, the DWP849X has soft start as well....
