Re: going to try coating my car

Let's suppose he only wants to add the coating, not caring if there are some marring/swirls underneath. Then I'm thinking Prep-all used by body shops would probably remove the sealant completely and leave the surface ready for the coating. Of course claying would still be a must and iron-x probably also a good idea. The clay process might add marring to the paint, in addition to whatever may be there already, but if you don't have a polisher and don't want to deal with that, the wax and grease remover might just be enough to remove the sealant. The solutions we normally use aren't strong enough for that but maybe a body shop level product could do it.

Just a thought, maybe others want to chime in on this idea in case this is your preferred route.

Are you opposed to having someone professionally do it? We know it's much more money but if you end up going the direction most of us here do, you'd end up buying a lot of stuff and to do it on just this car it might not be worth the investment.

That is a good point. Well Loach aka WaxMode has success using this from Poorboys on his videos to either remove or degrade waxes and sealants. Perhaps this would be a good option.

Loach turned me onto Prep-All and I think it’s a great idea. Maybe 2-3 panel wipes with that. Great idea from Bsoares.

Way easier than polishing for weekendwarrior.

I believe it was right before I prepped car for the SPS, gave this a try after seeing Loach video. Car had 2 yrs, 42k miles on the coating that I was removing.

It did *something* to the surface; passenger side untouched, driver side after StripDown: Poorboys StripDown - YouTube

I think driver side felt squeaky clean afterwards; did it remove anything or is it the 'Dawn effect'...dunno.

This an prep-all took care of TLC2 . It was on about a 6 months. Waiting for delivery today of Adams New spray coating.

Watching Wax mode go this route.

    Just to chime in...

Like others have stated - because you've been using a synthetic paint sealant on the car - the only way to ensure 100% all of it is removed so "it" (the sealant), doesn't prevent the coating from bonding to the paint is to mechanically abrade the paint - with a polish - and this will remove 100% of the previously applied synthetic paint sealant.

Then you can use the BLACKFIRE Paint Prep and wipe the car down followed by installing or applying the coating.

    Question

Since starting this thread - have you purchased a polish?
