    Review: Pinnacle Onyx Trim Restorer

    Pinnacle Onyx Trim Restorer

    What it is?
A black pigment dye for plastic, and vinyl.

    What it does?
It restores a deep, dark black appearance to faded trim and is the perfect product to use when trim is brand new as a pro-active way to keep new plastic and vinyl trim looking new.

    When to use it?
On brand new plastic and viny trim as a maintenance product or on faded plastic and vinyl trim to restore the factory black color.

    Why to use it?
Makes and keeps your plastic and vinyl trim looking new for a great looking car or to protect the resale or trade-in value.

Test Surface - Faded Black Vinyl Tonneau Cover

The vinyl is faded in some places it's starting to turn a whitish hue...

Step 1: First clean the surface to be treated. Happy to say Andre washed the truck for us. Thank you Andre!

Step 2: Using a clean microfiber applicator pad, apply the product to the surface and work it into the surface.

Step 3: After application, buff off any excess with a clean dry microfiber towel.

    My Airport Car

I have a strip of pebble textured black plastic on the back of my airport car, I followed the same procedure above to only one half of the plastic trim and stopped.

First I wiped the plastic clean using an APC

The plastic is still in good shape but is dull and lifeless, it really needs some attention.

Here's one well-worked application of the Pinnacle Onyx Trim Restorer.

Here's the before side - I left this untreated to compare to the treated side over time. Stay tuned....

Because this is basically a dye, you should apply a dressing or a sealant over the top to protect the now restored black finish.

    Review
This product worked GREAT! Not only would I recommend it to anyone I will now start showing it in my car detailing classes.

Here's the key though - YOU MUST FIRST DO A GREAT JOB OF CLEANING THE PLASTIC TRIM.

This is true for ANY plastic trim dye, dressing or sealant. It's key because plastic is not super absorbent I the first place so it's important to first get it clean so the pigment has the best chance of getting INTO the plastic with out dirt, road film or previously applied dressings getting in the way.

Also - be sure to wear protective gloves and immediately wipe any excess off nearby paint, plastic or glass.

I cleaned all my trim yesterday with a drill. I didn't get to the onyx dye. I didn't realize that this was not a protection product. I probably should of just got the pinnacle black label.

It doesn't wash off so there is some level of longevity and that can be equated to protecting the plastic simply by making it look good.

But yes, after application, you can apply your favorite trim dressing or coating over it.

That's what I use on the exterior plastic trim on our cars....
