Same boat as you, I want a smaller Flex rotary, but the only rotary I’ve ever used, my Dewalt 849 works so well. I’m fairly confident that the Dewalt will last 50 years given the 10 times or so I use it a year. It is a guarantee that I use the Dewalt every detail. (To spin dry my DA pads)

Well it just so happens that I came across a PE-14 with only 6 hours on it. I had to scoop it up. Time for the Makita to get put on backup duty lol.

Same as others. I don't think my Makita will ever die. 5 lbs. does sound pretty light though. The 9227 seems like it has to be close to 10 lbs.

Most the time when I've seen someone sell their FLEX tool, whichever tool it is... down the road they regret it and then step up to the table and pay full price a second time --> because most people don't sell their FLEX tools...

Totally agree Mike! Didn't ask why he is selling it. But I will reap the benefits! Haha.

Is the PE 14 an acceptable rotary for med oxididation on gel coat. I have the flex 3401 for 2nd and 3rd step of removing oxidation but need a rotary for the first step

    Yes.

You should not use pads over 8" in diameter per FLEX recommendation. I use 6.5 and 7.5 wool pads. If I get time I'll try to find the ones I like.

In all my boat classes we use the FLEX PE14 for removing our sanding marks when buffing out boats. Just work smart and know the tool will get hot but if it gets too hot it will shut itself off so no harm is done to the tool. The other rotary buffers get just as hot only they won't shut themselves off, they'll just hurt themselves.

Guilty lol I actually sold it because it was hard on my back using it (serious back problems) then figured out it was actually easier in my back than going over extremely hard clears of deep defects two or three times to remove them. I love the PE 14 I'm still going to try out the Rupes though...if it ever comes out. I had ordered the battery unit but decided to wait to see how powerful the Battery DA was first. It got a definite pass. Strange though, I don't know if it's the sound or exactly what, it seems like a different type of power. Like it doesn't spin as fast, but doesn't have any stalling issues. Hard to explain...but it has a different feel to it than the corded version.
