Pinnacle Black Label Coating and Single Stage Paint?
Hey guys,
I have searched and have not found a quality answer as to whether I can run PBL Paint Coating on my single stage paint. I did find a review of Opti-Coat and Cquartz where the companies responded that a coating may stain single stage paint, but it was uncertain.
Can anyone definitively answer this? I'd love to try a coating, and the Pinnacle products I have tried to date have been exceptional. I like that the PBL coatings allow layering of wax as I find waxing rather relaxing :)
Also, I have a few RIDS on my car which I will not be able to remove safely, will the coating enhance these?
Thanks in advance
Re: Pinnacle Black Label Coating and Single Stage Paint?
I believe Mike has stated it's okay for single stage. I believe DP Coating is as well.
Re: Pinnacle Black Label Coating and Single Stage Paint?
I just finished re-coating my vehicle with PBL Surface Coating and it has single stage paint.

Yes you can use the PBL Diamond Paint Coating on single stage paint. The key is the same when applying to clearcoats and that's to first prep the paint using the paint cleansing polish.
Here's my Detailer's thread about this...

If by the word enhance you mean mask the answer is "no".
It won't make them look deeper and it won't make them look shallow.
RIDS stand out like sore thumbs because you remove all the shallow scratches surrounding them and that's just the way it works....
:)

Its a 2006 Lexus IS350, ONYX Black, single stage. I picked it up on Christmas Eve as my Acura was totaled the week before. The car was surprisingly well maintained by the previous owner, it only has 60K miles, not bad for an 8 year old car in Phoenix. It's my DD
I only have a few pics I took after my first pass with M205 with GG 6" with an orange GG polishing pad back in January. The paint is quite responsive to this combo. I removed all of the swirls, but there are still some RIDS that I need to work through. It's topped with Ultimate Paste Wax, the car has a great wet look to it. I now understand why so many show cars are single stage paint.
With the paint being so soft, and having several small paint chips from daily driving, I was hoping maybe a coating would provide a bit of extra protection. The car is always garaged at home and at work, so I'm not too worried about the elements. I really enjoy waxing/sealing my car, and I know many coatings are best left without a topping. PBL seems to be one of the few that encourages it, is user friendly for a first timer, and affordable.

Nice finish!
The coating will make the finish a lot slicker to the touch, this should help with reducing marring. If you don't have the PBL Booster, get some. It really works great to keep the finish slick and glassy.

How often do you re-coat? Did you re-coat out of necessity or desire?
