Uv test (11 different products)
UV TEST (11 DIFFERENT PRODUCTS)
DAY ONE
Well, I was at wally's world today to pick up some pvc cement to fix a busted water pipe. As I was walking by the fabric dept. I remembered I've been meaning to get some vinyl or leather for a UV test. They only had read and blue vinyl and no leather so I got the blue vinyl. While I was waiting for my pvc cement to cure I set up my test.
I know these products are not comparable as UV protectants (A couple may not even claim UV protection) Also as you know some of these products have a little different function then others. Some are versatile and some overlap. And of course it's probably a safe bet the vinyl material I used is going to fade a whole lot faster then an actual automobile interior material that has built in UV inhibitors to aid in a longer life.
As long as everybody keeps these things in mind this should be interesting to see. Some of these products should fade rather quickly and we will not think any less of them for it. Others which come with some expectation should last longer. In either case it whould be fun.I taped a line down the length of the middle of the vinyl and removed the tape after applying products. That tape line is our untreated comparison strip.
The products being tested are:
Sonax Dashboard Cleaner (Matte finish) - http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...te-finish.html
1Z Cockpit Premium
1Z Leather Care - http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...ther-care.html
Leather Master Protectant Cream - http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...eaner-kit.html
Ultima Interior Guard Plus - http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...plus-uigp.html
Wolfgang Leather Care Conditioner
303 Aerospace Protectant
1Z Gummi
Duragloss Marine and RV protectant #531
Optimum Opti-Clean - http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...pti-clean.html
Ultima Waterless wash - http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...wash-plus.html
Note: the DG 531 will be added in the next day or 2 (when it arrives courtesy of Old Tiger)
Heres a couple videos showing the test strip on day one: Pretty much the same video but in the second one I shaded the fabric so it was easier to see the gloss differences.

Re: Uv test (11 different products)
One other thing. I think I'm going to move this fabric onto the dashboard of my car to avoid moisture in the mornings. The glass will block some UV and probably cause the test to last longer but I won't have to move the fabric in and out every night etc.
The vehicle will be outside 24-7 and I'll attempt to face it into the sun as much as possible.
Re: Uv test (11 different products)
Are you only doing one application and that is it, durability test, or continues application, check how good the protection is? That would be two type of testing...if you only apply once you will get the durability of the product, could be best uv blocking but only last 1 week..vs. last 4 weeks and has half the uv blocking potential. Just want to get the full scope of this.
Re: Uv test (11 different products)
I have a strong feeling that 303 will be the winner.
Re: Uv test (11 different products)
I am betting on the Ultima Interior Guard Plus to outpace the others.

You make a very good point. This test will be a one time application. I have another sheet of vinyl as well. I will do another test with re-application of product evey 3 or 4 weeks to cover our bases. Don't want to do it more often then that because who really wants to apply every week... Thank you :props:
