3.5" Backing Plates and 4" Spot Repair Pads on DA Polishers
3.5" Backing Plates and 4" Spot Repair Pads on DA Polishers
Here's what the 3.5" backing plates look like mounted to DA Polishers with 4" pads, including CCS, Hydro-Tech and Surbuf and also I've included what the 3" Griot's Polishing Pad looks like for size comparison using the adapter and the rotary buffer backing plate to attach to a DA Polisher.
Pictured are the PC, GG and Megs DA style polishers... (Love this new cart)

I have not used the small pad like you see above on a DA extensively, so I fired up one of the polishers with with the backing plate and pad you see above on the left and buzzed the polisher up to the 6.0 Speed Setting and it works fine but because the pad is so small the polisher is "tippy" so be sure to hold it carefully.

Thank's Mike, for taking the time to show us. The difference's in the machines..
Re: 3.5" Backing Plates and 4" Spot Repair Pads on DA Polishers
I've got the black backing plate you show, 2.75", and use it with the 3.5" red and white pads AG sells. I, too, noticed the DA was tippy when using. It takes a little more attention when using, but once you get use to it, they're great. I used the smaller pads the other day to buff out a tinted bug deflector on the front of a SUV. It was the perfect size and the deflector came out looking new.

Is there a thinner version of these pads? They still appear to be too thick, but that's just my opinion. :)
Thanks for sharing Mike.
Re: 3.5" Backing Plates and 4" Spot Repair Pads on DA Polishers
I tried looking for the spot buff kit, but they were listed as on back order. If i do get this kit once it's available, can i switch them out to the 4" HTs instead?

I am soooo patiently waiting for someone to make and start selling these smaller BPs for the Flex 3401...
Re: 3.5" Backing Plates and 4" Spot Repair Pads on DA Polishers
This may be a stupid question but I just purchased the GG DA polisher and was wondering which of the smaller BP's would fit it? Are the BP's universal to all DA polishers? I haven't used it yet still toooo cold here in the north east.

Yes you can use any backing plate on a PC, Griots, or Megs. All of the DA backing plates will fit any of these three machines.

Because it's a mechanically driven backup plate the gear size plays a major role in its design...

Thanks for the info.... keep hearing about everyone going with the smaller pads.... figured i would give the 6.5 ones a try first to get used to and then give the smaller ones a try.
