I am totally new to the Si02 stuff out there. I had been on a hiatus from detailing for a few years. My go to product was always Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant(WDGPS).
Are the Si02 products better than regular paints sealants such as the WDGPS?
And if so, what about Si02 makes them better?

Most of the “regular” paint sealants were polymer. Such as Wolfgang or blackfire crystal seal. The si02 products go on the same way, and are more durable than polymers, some people say they have more gloss, I think they have about the same. The new arrival on the scene is graphene sealants, too early to tell whether they’re better than Si02.
I think in my opinion Sio2 sealants aren’t much better than sealants. The idea is that they bonded better with coatings.
Most sio2 sealants don’t list the amount of Sio2 and the few I contacted said they couldn’t tell as they were trade secrets..... funny if i ask for a SDS i’d bet it be listed and at less than 5%.
That being said i do believe that their are alot of great ones out their it’s just that they are replacing old style products. Gotta keep up with trends as trends sell.
True ceramic coatings have a high content of Sio2 (50%+). Coating lights usually in the 25-35% range.
Polish Angel Cosmic make some with 30%+ but they are spendy.
If using as a stand alone don’t know if you’ll find a quality difference from a regular sealant to a sio2 one.
Wolfgang makes a sio2,that is very similar to WGDPGS. Try it and do a 50/50 test to see for yourself.
As for me I use Polish Angel, Griots Ceramic 3-1, Shine supply clutch and Blackfire Sio2

I've used the Wolfgang SiO2 Sealant, but not the older Deep Gloss product.
From my experience the SiO2 infused sealant did seem to pass on coating-like water behavior more so than traditional sealants I've used. Durability was really no different, maybe a touch better. I wasn't able to give it a really good test in that department. Appearances are REALLY subjective, but I did find the SiO2 sealant did seem more reflective and shiny vs a deeper glossy appearance found in other sealants. That could be the SiO2, or it could simply be the formulation of other ingredients. Not sure.

Good points, Bob. At least from my experience with the Wolfgang SiO2 product, it was more hydrophobic than other sealants I've used.
I was curious about this myself a few years ago, so I applied OptiSeal (a polymer sealant) to half of my hood and Hyper Seal (Opticoat's ceramic spray sealant) to the other half. The Hyper Seal side did appear more glossy and seemed to provide longer lasting protection. Then again, it was not a "blind" test so I could have been biased. But I personally do believe ceramic infused spray sealants do provide a bit more gloss and protection.
SiO2 sealants have significantly better water behavior / self cleaning than regular sealants. I have a lot of each, I love both... but water behavior makes the SiO2 products much more maintainable.
I have always loved and trusted WGDGPS for its durability and protection.
The only thing that I yearned for out of it though is more beading and sheeting, and a really slick feel after wiping it off. I know that’s not the most important thing in the world. But it’s something I like.
I know from just using the Meguiars Ultimate quick wax in the past, that after wiping it off, a towel would just seem to “Glide” over the hood and off side of the car. I’ve never really got that from the WGDGPS. And the Quick Wax is not even an expensive product.
I know that slick feeling doesn’t define whether a product is better than an another not, but it’s a good feeling.
