Cleaning/polishing rims/barrels after seasonal change with duragloss ??

whats your thoughts in using duragloss products on barrels to clean off all the grease and brake dust. If so which duragloss line if not which other product do u recommend?

For initial cleaning, Sonax makes great wheel cleaning products.

After that, DG to protect them would be a great choice IMO.

Duragloss makes great products so I don't see any issues with using them.

Seasonal wheel swaps are great times to give wheels a deep cleaning. I also use it as an opportunity to clean up places on the brake calipers which are typically unreachable with the wheels on.

Since you want to take good care of your wheels, I'd recommend you apply a coating to the wheels. It will last much longer than normal sealants and will make them much easier to clean. No time better to do this than either right after they come off the car or just before they go on.

Duragloss makes great products, if this is your poison of choice - go for it.


Sorry to say, I simply have not used much from this brand. Not for any reason, just can do it all.

I will go as far to say that any periodic cleaning and protecting, preferably a wheels off method will be certainly much better than never at all, virtually regardless of what products you might choose.

An example of such. Last year I sprung for new Tires on my 89 year old father's 2005 VW Touareg SUV.

The vehicle had only 10,000 miles on it, but none the less, they were Wheels that had never been fully cleaned and protected, only the outsides, and never the Barrels. And I sure did have my work cut out for me!

The tires being 15 years old, while great looking tread with only 10K were hard as rocks, 15 year old tires are something you don't wish to drive on at highway speeds!

With Floor Jack and a Stand I did one side at a time. Took about 4 hours each side and took 2 days to complete.

The Barrels were so dark brown with brake dust and dirt they were literally black! Who knew there was actually Light Grey Paint on the Barrels under all that!? LOL

The Center Caps were basically shot, I think someone at the Dealer did a swap at some point, and stole his Center Caps, because his were shot, and had many dings-dents in them. One had to wonder how did those Caps get that way, when the wheels were never off the truck since factory installed? I replaced them all with new 76mm dia. OEM types from Ebay.

The Plastic Chrome Lug Nut Covers were loaded with what I assume again was a very hard and dried Cosmoline type product. 20 of those took me a good 1-1/2 hours cleaning them all up with Turpentine beforehand.

The scrubbing-cleaning of the Barrels took 2-3 times with APC, then Turpentine again to remove greases, some artifacts of Cosmoline, and Tape Residues from the original Tape Balance Weights.

I first got all crud off the faces with Shampoos and Turpentine again and hand polished the Silver Metallic Painted Wheel Faces With WG Uber Compound, all came up looking brand new.

I was going to apply Carpro CQuartz DLX, had a new bottle on hand, but temps were hovering in the mid 40's.
Instead, I ultimately chose Collinite #845 IW.

Tires were then lavishly treated to a few coats of Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel both sides, remounted and torqued. All Wheel Wells being Plastic were fully cleaned, and treated With WG WETS Sealant.

The vehicle after that finally looked right to me.
