The First Foam Buffing Pad from 1965
The First Foam Buffing Pad from 1965
This coming Tuesday at 3:00pm we'll be doing a Live Broadcast all about buffing pads. This is my take, I know there's lots videos already on this topic but I can guarantee you this info will be different. It will be my Brain Dump on everything related to buffing pads.
Start with the original foam buffing pad from my antique wax collection.
The Wooless Wonder!

And "no" we will not be using this foam buffing pad to buff out a car. It's a tick past it's prime...

Wow, that’s a really cool piece of pad history, Mike.
Any idea if foam hand polishing pads around at this time, before or after? Seems like wool was used before this as this pad is known as the “Wooless Wonder.” Wonder what type of machine they would’ve used this on, rotary I’m sure, but what companies were making polishers?

Hey DMiglio. :props:
A bunch f companies were a while before this. Check out these threads over here - https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...buffing-tools/
Some pretty cool stuff there.
I have a couple of vintage polishers too. I’m far from a collector but I kinda dig these, & what’s better - they still run beautifully.
Vintage SHER Rotary Polisher.
1950’s Black & Decker Vitrifier!
And this one I picked up too but I knew a guy that would appreciate it seeing as he is the only one to have documented any such information about these early RUPES tools ...

Awesome post Aaryn!! I remember you making those threads last year, really interesting tools and shows how far along they’ve come a half century or more later.
Extremely nice gift for Mike there too! :xyxthumbs:
