This car was brought to us by a good friend needing a make over. It was restored about 30 years ago and like most cars that were restored in that era, this one has remained unchanged. From the interior to the original Truespoke wire wheels, this car is a true time capsule.
The paint choice was single staged lacquer. Therefore, we spent many hours gently and carefully massaging the paint. First, we rebadged the hood and trunk lids. We started by applying Meguiars #7 that is made especially for this type of paint. It’s purpose is rejuvenation of older single staged paint so that it will be easier to work with. We let that soak for about 20 hours. Once removed, we began our correction process. Very carefully, we were able to remove the aging process of this paint. All swirls as well as other paint defects were removed by using Wolfgang’s swirl remover. We noticed some panels had “solvent pop” which occurs when the solvent in the paint evaporates too quickly. The end result will be tiny pin holes or even blisters in the paint. There isn’t anything that you can do for this. Therefore, we worked very carefully around it. The inside of this Bel Air is very well dated and we love it!! It was thoroughly cleaned, polished, and protected. Since this is a 30 year old build, most, if not all of the chrome were pitted. We were able to correct that process and polished all of the chrome. All of the metal and painted surfaces inside were polished and protected.
The wheels were thoroughly cleaned as well. After cleaning, we were able to polish off all of the rust. We really wanted to save these 30 year old wheels. I think that we succeeded in the process!!!
This car is a true time capsule!!! It shows exactly what we can do for your ride. It is your investment and it should be protected!!!
There were a plethora of different items and products used in this process. For the paint, it was cleaned
