Any of you guys chemists?
I am trying to compare SiO2 coatings and sealants and when I look at the MSDS I cannot identify what is supposed to represent the Sillicon Dioxide content of the products.
Can anyone explain how to compare these products on a chemical level? For exemple, the percentage of SiO2 in each product and so on.
I’ve asked similar questions and haven’t ever received any answers. Maybe chemists don’t frequent the forum?
Maybe a chemist from PBMG can chime in if a staff member shows this thread?
I will ask a paint chemist I know when I get back to the states (I’m currently in China on business. I’m a protein formulation scientist working on Oncology molecules. ) what MSDS were you looking at?

I tried to find the one for McKee's 37 paint coating but I can't find it. Since I believe by law they need to have it available, my guess is that it's just hard to find and I did not do an extensive search.
I am mostly interested in comparing coatins and ceramic sealants such as:
- McKee's paint coating v2.0
- Ceramic Pro
- Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light, EXO, Crystal Serum Pro
- IGL coatings

- Hydrosilex Recharge
- Gtechnic Liquid Crystal C2V3
No chemist. But as I understand it the Sio2 is not hazardious and the companies do not need to put the pure Sio2 in the sds sheet. Then there is different strings where you get Sio2 on the paint after the chemical reaction. Often 2 different strings that when reached in the air or blends with water starts to chemical react with each other. Like the spray on rinse off coating products do. So mostly it's that you need to trust the manufactures on the amount of Sio2 they have in there products. But then I also think it has to do with the carriers of Sio2 and which is used and how much Sio2 it's really leaving behind on the paint and how much is getting off when wiped off. This is just thoughts I have about it and think it's very hard to determind which Sio2 product that leaves the highest content of sio2 on the paint. Then it's not all about Sio2 that can protect a paint. You have the hydrocarbon based coatings and fluorine based ones and mixes of different ones and different polymers and so on.
But it would be really interesting to hear a chemist describe of the Sio2 and Tio2 content in ceramic coating products.

On the Mckees msds I think they would have to provide it if you were a reseller or a professional shop with you and your employees using it. It has to be provided by law if it’s hazardous. At least it had to be provided to Mckees by whatever chemical companies make their products
Since most of this is probably considered hobbiest sales and use, they kind of get a loop hole and can try to keep their manufacturers’ name and “secret sauce” under cover

Maybe... I don't know. I just find it funny that for any other brand all I have to do is Google brand name + product name + MSDS and get a link and when I do the same with McKee's nothing comes up. Last year I printed the MSDS of all the products I was using. Maybe I have it in my book but it's in the truck in storage for the winter so I can't check.Quote:
