Paint Thickness Guage inadequate ... discovered the boot on the S Class Coupe is plastic!

OK in fairness my ERAY PTG (£169 discounted to £98) only said it did Ferrous and Aluminium substrata.
I realised most of the car is Aluminium, wings doors, bonnet etc.

So I knew the skirts and bumpers were an issue, but when it wouldnt work on the Boot, a magnet said it all!

Are there any cheap (circa £100) meters that can measure at least overall paint thicknesses on Plastic materials ?

I have seen some at £1,500 which are totally out of budget for me! And one at £4,300 that can measure 3 different paint thicknesses Primer/basecoat/clear-coat ...... very nice ... but no thanks LOL. :):)

So far, my only solution is to drive to a paint shop; and ask them to spot measure around the boot to see if there are any thin areas and then be careful!
I wonder what they would charge to do that?

The ones that can read plastic are expensive.

Thanks, I just hoped there were budget versions. Explains why I couldnt find any
