We've lost a legend - Stephen Hawking dead at 76
Just found this out a few minutes ago. I originally went to college for Nuclear Engineering, and have always been extremely interested in astrophysics and cosmology, so this is definitely hitting me pretty hard.
Rest in Peace, you brilliant man.

And now he knows if there is a God (which he firmly denied).

and don't forget Matthew 10:33
Yeah, I don't see the pearly gates opening up for someone who spent a great deal of time telling others that they don't exist.

I really don't want to get drawn into a religious discussion here, especially on a board that, IMHO, has always been about sharing knowledge and helping others... so I'll just say this:
I've always held to the belief that Christianity is about loving others, and that God and Jesus were, first and foremost about love and forgiveness. I find it hard to stomach that anyone who also believes that God is love can turn around and say that another person, who does not also conform to their belief can not ultimately find forgiveness in the face of that same God.
Personally, I believe that Hawking should be allowed that love and forgiveness in his afterlife, especially considering everything he has contributed, should he find himself before God.

I was simply pointing out something from the very book that christianity is based on. Denying God (and even worse, influencing others to believe the same) is a very egregious error. (Mark 3:28-30)
Being a very spiritual person, I have always been bothered by Stephen Hawking because he was considered so brilliant, yet couldn't see the obvious hand of intelligent design in everything around him. He chose to vehemently deny it, and because he was a very influential person, dragged many others away from God. And that is why, according to the bible, he will not be allowed into the kingdom of heaven. Yes, it's sad. But it was Hawking's choice.
I think this is just as much a case of sharing knowledge and helping others as anything else. Perhaps more so since eternity is at stake. But since this topic makes certain people uncomfortable, I'm done talking.
