Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
Hello my Autogeek family. :xyxthumbs:
First off - appologies for my lack of updates on these threads & general absence on the forum of late. Life once again has thrown us some ugliness, & without going into too much detail my Mum has fallen ill to cancer & we have nearly lost her a couple of times due to medical complications but at this stage, she is somewhat stable. This along with the stresses of the new building, moving house, moving shop, staff etc has even seen me back in the A & E department with another suspected heart attack, which as it turned out was a false alarm & I must add, probably a damn good wake up call & reminder that there is a limit.
Anyhow - here we are with another update on "the goings on WAY down South" which I started back in July with these two previous posts -
https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...420&highlight=
https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...238&highlight=
As with those two threads I will post some pictures for entertainment value & I'll start with some shiny black paint -
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_15311.JPG
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_10923.JPG
So the shop remains busy & even the normal Spring time "lull" was fairly non-existent but as per normal, everything is picking up pace coming closer to the holiday season. I hope to have a couple of days off this year & I will do my best to say "no" so I can spend some time with family. So, since my last update we did employ the young man & how it works down here in NZ is - you can take someone on for a three month trial & if they aren't any good you can terminate their employment at any stage no questions asked. This week is his last week of his trial period & my Wife & I have some decisions to make . . . . stay tuned.
Other goings on in the shop - umm . . . My Commercial Dr ColorChip set up is still impressing me & is a valuble addition to our business. Unfortunately the New Zealand Chapter of the IDA has turned into a franchise beneficial organisation & sadly my views on raising the standards of detailing in NZ over getting as many people signed up as members has seen me kept out of the loop as a board member but to be honest - if thats the direction they are going, then I would rather not be a part of it.
A pretty cool little Plymouth Scamp. I like this car, I like the simple styling & like the Nova, the compact design.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_08512.JPG
A tidy example of a sweet C6 Corvette.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_06952.JPG
I had previously touched on our desire to have a retail section in the new shop & being a small town & aside from the normal over the counter products found at local auto parts stores nobody has tried this here before. Uncharted territory but I believe once we get the word out there we shall have some success. Early signs are good. :xyxthumbs: We have paired up with a great supplier here in NZ - United Car Care & we will run our retail store as United Car Care Blenheim under our banner "Details". We will offer a good range of products from the likes of Gyeon, Menzerna, Valet Pro, Wheel Woolies, Rupes, Solution Finish, Duragloss, MetroVac, Waxaddict . . . Its pretty exciting for us & we are looking forward to the challenge.
Kia make some pretty cool cars & this little "Hot Hatch" Ceéd is a nice car indeed. The pearl white looked incredible in the sunshine.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_12712.JPG
A sweet "Mineral Grey" Roush Stage 3 Mustang.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_16812.JPG
This Ford Galaxie was one of my favourite cars I have detailed this year. In terms of condition there wasn't anything too dramatic to deal with other than the usual swirls but I had fun with it & enjoyed every minute of the detail.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle...m/IMG_1934.JPG
Right, so because I have been slack with my updates on the new shop progress, I'll just fire a few pictures on to catch everyone up from where we left off.
This was the next stage after my last update in August with the exterior cladding on & with the painting being done.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_08753.JPG
This one showing the columns & steel work for the cantilever roof over the wash bay & some yard work being started.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_12032.JPG
Nope, this is not my first job "rolling"in. Picture shows the roof completed over wash bay.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_16363.JPG
Exterior painting finished & car park nearing aspalting stage.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_17092.JPG
From this stage until the time we moved shop was only a fortnight & this time was hectic busy & it appears no pictures were taken during this time but really, it was only the asphalt going down, so nothing terribly exciting.
Here are a couple of photos of the inside of the building whilst the carpet tiles & vinyl flooring was being layed.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_12281.JPG
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_12252.JPG
Forgive me for the fuzzy photo quality of these two. This is us putting the floor down in the workshop. Benjamin (2yrs) spent the morning running around with a mallet & floor tile helping out he said. :props:
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_14212.JPG
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_14281.JPG
A picture of my sign man & Hot Rodder Brian painting the signs on our wall.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/galle.../IMG_20001.JPG
So after months of frustrating set backs & sitting back watching & not being allowed to do anything we are finally in our new shop & open for business. Its been super exciting & super hard at the same time. I have a great team behind me & a few people I cannot thank enough for getting stuck in & helping out & breathing life into our dream. Thank you to all of you here - my Autogeek Online family for the kind words shared in previous threads & the encouragement that provided the enthusiasm to keep on keeping on. Thank you! :props:
Here are some pictures of the shop finished & ready for work - Entrance, reception & to the right is our customer lounge/waiting area. Note - Ivan on our reception counter & Mike Phillips on the television. :dblthumb2:

I don't believe you guys get the Holden Colorado in the States? This one looking sharp in black parked outside in front of the shop.

There we have it. The start of a new journey for us & our little business down here in New Zealand. Thank you all for sharing the ride & I look forward to sharing our story with you all as we move forward.
The Details team. :buffing:

Holy Moly! Now that is a really top drawer setup!!! Maybe I'll grow up and be like you. That, Aaryn, is a first class operation!
Love how you touched on the different cars plus the shop development all in one smooth thread. This is good stuff here!
I am very impressed.
And lastly---take care of yourself first! We here at AGO need you around!!

Re: Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
First off let me send my well wishes and prayers to your mom. Also take care of yourself and don't be afraid to take some time off for yourself and family. If your clients respect you and your craft they will understand. I finally took the past week off here for Thanksgiving. It was much needed and although fun I am glad to get back at it today.
Your shop is stunning! Congrats on getting in there and cranking out some sweet stuff! We do get the Chevy Colorado and GMC Caynon here in the states. I have actually had my eyes on one for a bit but due to my car addiction I can't make up my mind on what I want to buy! HAHA.
Congrats brother and keep doing your thing!

Best regards Tony

First off, well wishes sent to your mum and family. You will all be in my prayers. Hard work, especially perservering through the turbulent times, pays off.
That is an absolutely BRILLIANT setup and shop. I wish you all the luck in the world with it!
And Benjamin hauling around the tile and mallet is the most adorable thing I've seen in a long time!
Keep pluggin' my friend.

Thanks buddy, I'm pleased you like the shop, we're pretty stoked with it. Hahaha, yup! Benjamin must've carried that mallet & tile around for over three hours straight! I tried negotiating with him so as I could use the mallet but he wasn't giving it up for anything. :dblthumb2:

Yeah, cancer sux huh. Sorry about your Dad my friend. My Mum dedicated the last 20 years to caring for the elderly, & she put her heart & soul into each & every person she cared for. In those last 20 years I only recall her having three half days off - one when my Dad passed away, another for his funeral & one for My sweet Daughters funeral. A truely inspirational person & one of the least deserving people to suffer from this horrible disease.
Haha, nice! I'm pleased you like our shop Paul, you're welcome here anytime mate. :dblthumb2:

I hope so too mate. Thank you for the support. I'm all good, I must admit - I did go straight back to work as soon as I was allowed to leave the hospital. Took the warning shot pretty seriously though.

. . . A couple more pictures I couldn't get to download the other day. :dunno:
A Jaguar in for some polishing work, super nice colour in person.

An SRT8 300C Chrysler with only 31,000km's on the clock, a regular client & one who I look forward to seeing a few times every six months. From England, lives the summer there & lives our summer here in New Zealand too.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-line. I must say - I didn't give it much thought but I am loving the reflection of the chequered floor in the paintwork of the cars. :dblthumb2:

Not something you see everyday. An M635csi BMW, a nice example in for some polishing work, kinda loved this car. :props:

Re: Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
* Just a quick update *
So far the shop has been open for two weeks & two days. Other than the people in the know, we hadn't broadcast that we had moved & are open for business until a Facebook post on Monday evening (Wednesday morning now) & the response has been fantastic. Product sales have been quite steady, obviously not Autogeek sales figures but for a small town & with word only just making its way out there, we are happy to date. :dblthumb2:
Everything else is working nicely, it appears I have put things away pretty much where I wanted to, & the shop is running pretty efficiently. One more set of hands would be great & for now, my gorgeous Wife helps out where she can but another full time staff member is inevitable.
So far so good team. :buffing:

Appreciate the kind words my friend. Haha, yeah I had to have a bit of Mike Phillips on the TV. We don't get any shows like Competition Ready down here just yet but we represent via YouTube. :xyxthumbs:
We sure have our share of American cars down here. After America, New Zealand has the most Mustangs world wide! Crazy stat but we do have alot down here. The car culture is very healthy, & we have some interesting things down here, from Imports, Vintage, Classics & Hot Rods, the country is full of great cars. I had a nice 56 Chevy Sports Coupe in yesterday & a C4 Vette too which is getting some polishing done when I get to work this morning. :buffing:

We do Bob, us Kiwi folk are car crazy for sure. I’ve never talked to Barry Meguiar personally but I believe he loves coming to New Zealand for the Whangamata Beach Hop.

Re: Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
Neat stat regarding Mustangs. Glad the car culture in New Zealand is in good shape. Sure helps your business as well.
If you get a chance, please post some pictures of the polished up C4. I’ve been really liking the C4 lately. I wish the late 1991-96 C4’s would have retained the round tail lamps and the black belt-line trim like the earlier C4’s. But the late C4’s had a slightly nicer interior and I like the front bumper better on the later cars.

Definitley! Dad was a "Car Guy" & always had his cars looking fantastic & because the car scene down here has always been healthy, I've spent my entire life around alot of differing motoring scenes. :dblthumb2: I wish he could see us now.
I snapped a couple of pics of the C4, & I have more but I was pushed for time yesterday & didn't get too many "beauty shots" but here are a couple. The owner tells me the C4 gets a hard time (down here at least) amongst other Corvette owners, almost "snobbed"because it's deemed to not be a traditional Vette? I like the C4, I love the awesome 80's dash display . . . sooo 80's!!! This one is registered as an 89. I don't know a great deal about them to be fair, it's showing signs of wear & tear in places but polished up okay.

Re: Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
LEDtailing - Reading what you said about the later C4 Corvettes not keeping the round tail lights or black belt line, I'm guessing this one has been changed due to an accident or cosmetic reasons but either way - I agree with you, the round tail lights are much nicer.

Re: Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
Aaryn,
Thanks for posting the C4 pics. Love the color. First thing I noticed was the rear tail lamps don’t match the 1989 round style. FYI the 1990 ZR1 was the first C4 to have square tail lamps and the 1990 non-ZR1 kept the round lamps. 1991 all Corvettes went square.

Thank you my friend, the information is appreciated. :props:
If it were me in charge of design, I think sticking with the round would've been a better option but alas, I am/were not. We Kiwis never got the Corvette as a NEW car down here in any real numbers, all are imported & left hand drive which kinda makes them special I think. We are on track to be getting the Camaro now that GMs Australian division "Holden" has finished production of the Commodore range.
If us Kiwi folk embrace the Camaro like we have the NEW Mustang, its sure to sell pretty well.

Re: Final updates on the goings on WAY down South.
Hey Aaryn! Finally getting caught up on threads. First off, prayers to your mom... I hope she's doing better since your original post.
Benjamin is a cutie, and glad you've put him to work... LOL.
The cars you're working on are true fav's of mine.. The Scat (Dart), Galaxy and of course the Mustangs...
Saying that your shop is amazing and that I'm envious is an understatement, and we all know it didn't get like that overnight. It took years of dedication, hard-work, blood, sweat and tears to get to where it is today. That's a lot to be proud of... so take a moment for yourself and the fam, reflect on the accomplishments and be sure to take care of yourself!
I'd love to head your way, but man the thoughts of 14 hour flight from LA is tough... Hopefully Elon Musk/Space-X will come up with a way we can go to NZ or Aus in two hours or less! LOL.
Keep us posted on cool projects! :)

I'd love to head your way, but man the thoughts of 14 hour flight from LA is tough... Hopefully Elon Musk/Space-X will come up with a way we can go to NZ or Aus in two hours or less! LOL.
Keep us posted on cool projects! :)
Thank you Paul. :xyxthumbs:
I am looking forward to being able to step back a bit, taking a breath & actually enjoy what we have here. Crazy busy at the moment & I’m guilty of over working & to be fair - I’m missing the point! :buffing: Hard to throttle back but I know I’ll have to change this way of thinking, & you’re right Paul, all of this took years of hard graft & it’d be a shame to not enjoy it huh.
Thanks for the reminder mate! :props:
You’re always welcome here but yeah, I understand! It’s a HUGE journey to make & although air fares are getting cheaper all the time - it’s still hefty on the wallet. So many things I would like to come over there for to do & see but man! I’d need to work double time! Thanks for taking the time to comment my friend, appreciate it.

Thank you good Sir! :dblthumb2:
That is a (Don’t quote me on the year) 76 . . . ish HQ Holden. Aussie GM product that has just ended production in Australia now. Big cult following down this end of the planet. This one is a super nice example too, & that gold outside in our summer sunshine - Wow! :props:
Thanks for chiming in Klasse Act.

We certainly have variety. Sorry I didn't snap too many pics of the Holden but here are a couple I did take, the owner is a good friend so next time he has it out I'll grab some better ones.
