Happy Birthday Hilux - single stage red!
Happy 20th Birthday to this 1997 Toyota Hilux.
There has been a bit of discussion about single stage paint, antique paint, Meguiars #7 on the forum of late, & today I had the pleasure of making this Hilux shine again.
These articles by Mike Phillips have ALL the information regarding Meguiars #7 - https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...one-place.html
While this Toyota Hilux isn't all that old, & not exactly "antique" it does have single stage paint that required some love & attention. All but the two front guards (fenders) were original paint but at least these were painted in single stage too, & for a twenty year old "bush basher" it was fairly straight & true. After a thorough wash/decontamination routine a test spot revealed my process. Meguiars M205 on Lake Country Orange Hybrids on Flex 3401s, followed with a loving hand massage with Meguiars #7 & LSP - CarPro Reload. Now I know this strays a bit from the heavy soaking of #7 first method, & Mike can probably explain why I went this way better than me but the oxidation wasn't as bad as it looked, time was a factor & I have had better success doing it this way on more modern single stage paints.
Right - pictures!
As the Toyota Hilux arrived -

Poor thing! Right lets give it some shine. Sorry, no pictures of the work in progress as this was a limited time project . . . under eight hours from start to finish but here are the pictures of the results -

What a stunning turn around Aaryn - thanks for sharing.
Its incredible what a good detail can do and I am sure the owner was thrilled that you breathed some new life into the old girl!!!!
Re: Happy Birthday Hilux - single stage red!
Nice turnaround! That's a nice little rig. I had a 97 Nissan hardbody, I loved the size of those trucks to be able to go off road in.

Re: Happy Birthday Hilux - single stage red!
Looks great! You must have been hustling to get it done in 8 hours.
Re: Happy Birthday Hilux - single stage red!
Incredible transformation!
As always, GREAT WORK Aaryn!
Just to comment there's been about a half dozen new threads started on this forum with new members join so they can get help with restoring antique original single stage paint.
And in context - 99.9% of the population owns cars with clearcoats paint systems. Incredible. I wanted to take my original article on this topic and turn it into a how-to book and I've been told no one would buy it.
Look at these stats... my original article is closing in on a half million views.
Who are all these people looking at this article on how to restore single stage paint when everyone and their brother owns a car with a clearcoat finish?
Even the other articles on how to use #7 have a lot of views.

Anyway, great job as always Aaryn, thanks for taking the time get the before pictures, stop working, put down your buffer and take the during pictures and then the after pictures and then creating a write-up and sharing it on our forum to inspire others
It's greatly appreciated.
:)

Hey Mike,
Thank you my friend. Yeah, Apart from taking on water, & the nesessary evils of answering the phone, I like to just crack on & get things done. I had fun with this one too though. Hope you're well. :dblthumb2:
