1950 MG TD detailed by ShowShine
Hello, fellow auto geeks!!!
If you've followed or viewed my past details, you'll notice I specialize in classic car work and other niche areas.
For this detail, I present to you a 1950 MG TD with a host of problems. The car has three different types of paint "enamel, lacquer, and urethane," years of neglect, wire wheels "what a pain in the butt," louvers/slats in the hood, and a variety of compound curves and hard to reach areas. Let's get to the pictures and see what we accomplished on the first day.
Here's how the car was dropped off, doesn't look too bad, does it?

After closer inspection, this car has had a rough life. According to the owner it was raced in the 60's and had been repainted god knows how many times.

WOAH!!! Certainly a car that deserves a detail huh? Lets take a look at what it looks like currently...
Tires: Zep 505 "this stuff is amazing"
Wheels: Sonax Wheel Plus, wheel woolies, race glaze brushes, then IronX to finish them off
Wheel wells: Optimum power clean and brush
Paint: IronX before wash, Rinse, Uber rinseless with a splash of ONR and a blue detail sponge

Did I mention it's really cold here in NJ? The water started freezing after the IronX rinse

On to correction processes!
First thing I corrected was my dreaded enemy... hood louvers.
Correction with Rupes Nano, 1 inch yellow pad, Yellow Rupes polish...

Then I tackeled the hood. As mentioned before, this car had been repainted once or a hundered times and the owner didn't know which number in between. I started with Rupes yellow polish on my Rupes LHR75E with a yellow Rupes pad. It took the majority of the defects out but it couldn't take out the severe pig tails on the top of the hood. I then moved up to my Rupes 21 and a Megs microfiber cutting pad with Menzerna Fg400 to level all of the severe problems before re-polishing with the LHR75E and yellow.

Guess I didnt take photos of the passnger side hood after correction. You'll see it in the finished photos, but the other corrected photo is just the same.
I then moved onto the paint between the hood and windshield. This is where I found a new golden bullet. Here I decided to try FG400 with my LHR75E and the Rupes yellow pad to increase cut while knowing how well FG400 can finish. Look for yourself, this combo absolutely killed the defects while leaving a LSP ready finish!!!!

Thats all for now, work on the car starts again tomorrow.
Stay tuned for the rest of the correction process, optiseal application, DoDo juice Supernatural application, and Leatherique treatment on the seats.

That's the one-inch pad on the nano. Honestly, I don't exactly understand why you can't use a 2 inch with the rotary attachment. I'm guessing it has something to do with the tool itself and not the buffing process.
