I use the factory plate with 6.5" lake county foams
Is there any benefit on going on 6.5 vs 5.5? I am really new to this. Sorry
I got a question the Lake county foams come in two versions. one is 10$ more expensive is the difference notable?
Yes, there is a difference. Going with the 5 inch backing plate and the 5.5 inch pads will allow the polisher to work much more effectively. I run the HF polisher and when I dumped the cheap HF pad and moved down in size to the smaller backing plate/pads, I noticed a considerable improvement in performance. If you read some of Mike Phillips articles here on polishing, he discusses this very topic.
I'm not sure which pads you are talking about in particular. Since you are just now getting started, take a look at the Lake Country Flat Pads. You can get them in a multi-pack a little cheaper than individually which will allow you to get a few of each color depending on the work to be performed.
Depending on your budget I would highly recommend the LC Thin Pro pads. I tried out a few recently and liked them much better than the Flat Pads I've used for years.
