Calling all boaters...need some help
So a very good friend knows I detail cars and his family has some sort of boat he uses for fishing and such. They want to clean it before it goes into the water and I was asked if I wanted help. I said sure but was wondering how much auto detailing could really help in boat cleaning.
I do have a boars hair wash brush, some vinyl and leather cleaner and scrub brush and maybe some other things. Any boaters know what could be done to help get a boat ready? The owner asked me about mold issues and I said hydrogen peroxide should kill it but other than that I would have limited experience with boating
Re: Calling all boaters...need some help
As a man that has worked on boats for almost all my 47 years on this planet, I will say this:
RUN AWAY!!!! Lol
What kind of boat? Fiberglass? Aluminum? You say fishing boat. Fresh or salt water?
And what kind of cleaning do they want?
Re: Calling all boaters...need some help
Just a fiberglass and salt water boat. They want to clean it before launching

If they just want it "cleaned up a bit", then it's pretty easy.
Don't bother with the Boars Hair brush. Get a stiff brush meant for boats. There are also black streak removers, salt removers, and mold removers that you can get that work pretty good.
Not going to mention the brands as I know McKee's has a marine line, and I'm not gonna step on toes here on the forum. Also, muriatic acid works very well for removing the yellowing that forms right around the waterline. Works in minutes, and really makes a difference in the boats appearance when you're done.
But I've done many boat washes. (Not complete details). A 21-24' simple little boat with an outboard should clean up nicely in about an hour/ hour & a half unless it's been parked under a tree for 3 years.
