    porter cable with inverter

Well i finally gathered all my materials to run the pc 7424xp to a 2000w inverter, using 3ft of 2/0 welding wire from battery to inverter. The pc will spin on the speed setting 5 and 6 but not 1-4. Any help why this is happening? The inverter spins my 11amp rotary on all speed settings but not pc.

I started with inverter puts a real strain on battery

Do all the speeds work when you just 'plug it in' or only using the inverter?

PC works at all speeds plugged into a house wall outlet

Making a semi wild a** guess here...From PC's info, the 'speed control' is an electronic device. I'm thinking that the inverter is not delivering enough of a true sine wave voltage. Being 'electronic' and not a simple rheostat it wants (and needs) that sine wave to operate properly.

    Re: porter cable with inverter

Because my inverter is a modified sine wave. Are you suggesting that i get a true sine wave inverter in order for pc to work properly? When i put on speed setting 1-4 and turn it on, you can hear motor turn on but it doesnt spin head. I thought it was a current problem but i have 2/0 wire which i think is sufficient and like i said inverter does power my rotary buffer.

    Re: porter cable with inverter

I would definitely try it on a converter that does produce a true sine wave.

Don't just go out and buy a new one until you see if that is the answer.

OT: Boy, it has beeeeen a looooong time since I've thought about AC voltages/amps. Surprised me that I can even still think along those lines. Guess one never really forget what was in some of those engineering classes (~50 yrs ago) after all. Crap, NOW I really feel old! LOL!

Lol yea im also studying for engineering and stuff like this i find awesome. The pc is great its just that because i am a mobile detailer, i need the speed setting 4 for waxing. But i'll try your suggestion and find someone that has a true sine inverter.

I really appreciate your time and advice Mr.Bill. I'll let you know how it goes.
