    Other Backing Plates for PC7424XP?

    Hello Folks,
I do have a nice selection of LC Backing Plates for my Porter Cable, but have a question about backing plates that are perforated, like what is used on the Rupes Polishers.

I understand the Rupes Plates are not a compatible fit for PC Type machines, but is there anyone that does make such that does fit?

How about the new Griots Boss Plates, they appear perforated. Will they fit the PC Machine?

I'm thinking these types of plates might help a pad run cooler, thus less heat on a pad, less chance of heat caused issues.

The new Boss plates are not standard DA backing plates and will not fit on a PC.

Detailers Domain carries a standard 5" perferated backing plate for DA's -- just do a search on their site.

Thank you, I went to their site, and at over $26, the plate is not cheap, essentially a urethane LC Plate with some holes drilled in it. The killer is the exhorbitant $18 shipping for that 5" Plate, bringing the Plate's total cost in at over $40. Way too much $$$ for me to feel good about spending, so I think I'll pass on this vendor and their wares.

Maybe in the future, AG-Autopia might offer such?

It looks like Chemical Guys sells a Perforated Backing Plate(s) called the TorqR5. But searching here, doesn't look like AG sells them.

Reckon I could go to Chemical Guy's site, and see what the total would be? The price of the Plate is less, and looks to be a red colored Urethane.

The GG6 backing plate has holes in it.

Is it a 5" Plate though? The largest Pads I use are 5.5", so if it is a 5.5" Plate or larger, that would be a no-go, and not work.

Chemical Guys not only has a 5", but also a 3" TorqR5 Plate that is perforated.

I'll check Griots for the heck of it, and see what they have?

PS: All I see at Griots Garage as far as a Perforated Backing Plate is their Boss Model, which I gather does not fit PC Type DA Machines.

The GG6 plate definitely has holes in it but it's 6". I don't have a PC anymore but I never really was concerned about heat build up with it either. Not compared to my new GG21 that's for sure.

I'm probably correct though, that over-working any pad on any machine will mean pre-mature failure of a pad.

I'm certainly no new day pro, but have seen it in my experience, that pads go to crap in a hurry by not swapping out, and sometimes I'm afraid, that "time" can be a crap shoot dependent upon pad, speed, product.

Yep, 6" ain't gonna work for me.

I have a steelman 5". It's a generic Chinese offering with six vents.

I also use a Dynabrade Medium Density plate that features "micro hooks" compatible with Meguiar's discs. This plate has five vent holes.

Mirka make one that looks like Swiss cheese! I would like to try these out too.

3M also makes a vented plate. It might even be available in the AG store.
