I only use mine with an old LC gold pad to apply Collinite 845. And like bcgreen i have a 7336 probably 25 years old and has done many tours in battle, been dropped and abused and refuses to die.

STILL using mine (a NON XP). I've had it since 2002 and the only thing it's ever needed was a new cord.

    Either will work great.

I've been really liking the Rupes Wool pads and LC HDO CCS.

My only concern with the HDO is that the really stiff grey interface foam has been breaking down quickly. I might give the SDO a shot and see what happens.

I also like the Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber and Uro-Tec Yellow.

My original pads were the Hex Logic - Green to cut, Blue to polish, and Red to apply sealant. I still use them when I can. The speed of micro and wool fiber pads takes priority these days though.

Dumb question, but which size Rupes yellow pad would work best for the PC? The 6” I assume? I believe I have either a 5” or 5.5” BP.

If you have a 5” backing plate, get 5-5.5” pads for the PC

Re: How many here are still using the Porter Cable DA?

The PC 7424XP is the only machine I own. My dad gave it to me a few years ago and that's what kickstarted me getting into paint correction on my own car and on friend's cars. I use a slew of Lake Country CCS 5.5" and 3.5" pads. I also have tried the Griot's BOSS Perfecting 5.5" pad which I like when there's just light marring to polish out.

Eventually I think my next machine will be the Griot's G9 when I come across a job that requires removal of heavier defects since my understanding is that it's like a 7424XP on steroids, but the 7424XP works fine for now since I take care of my car and don't have major/deeper swirling to remove.

Re: How many here are still using the Porter Cable DA?

Anyone still remember the Ultimate Detailing Machine David Bynon introduced almost 20 years ago? Still got mine, lol. That was the first polisher I have ever owned. The paint on my 2000 Eclipse was pretty hard so I bought a used Makita rotary off eBay shortly thereafter and kept the UDM for softer paint. I eventually found a used Flex 3401 on eBay for a stupid low price and bought it. So now the Flex is used for larger pads and the UDM now has a 3 inch plate for smaller pads. If the UDM ever dies I will probably replace it with a Rupes Bigfoot HLR75 cordless for small pads and if the Flex ever dies, I will probably get one of the Milwaukee cordless long throw DA polishers.
