1971 Dodge Charger R/T - 1940 Oldsmobile Streetrod shine by Pinnacle

1971 Dodge Charger R/T - 1940 Oldsmobile Streetrod shine by Pinnacle

Last night we took the contaminated and swirled out paint on two very special cars and restored the type of finish you would expect to see on cars like these.

Truth is... you can use these same product to restore the paint on any car, even the car in your garage.

    Process for both cars

Step 1: Paint on both cars was contaminated so we clayed it using Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay and Pinnacle Clay Lube.

Step 2: The paint on both cars was compounded to remove the swirls using Pinnacle Advanced Compound.

Step 3: After compounding the paint was further refined by polishing with Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish to maximize the gloss, clarity and depth of shine.

Step 4: After polishing we machine applied Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax.

Step 5: After letting the wax dry to a haze the wax was carefully removed using what in my opinion is one of the nicest towels for anytime you're working on a perfect finish, the Super Soft Deluxe Green Microfiber Towels with Rolled Edges.

    Commnets....
We used a variety of tools for all the machine polishing work. The Pinnacle compound, polish and wax are versatile in that you can use them by hand or machine. In fact there were a couple of places on both cars where I used the Pinnacle Advanced Compound by hand to remove scratches because the panel was too thin to fit a buffing pad by machine.

    Tools Used
    New Meguiar's MT300
    Flex 3401
    Rupes Duetto
    Rupes Bigfoot 21
    Rupes Bigfoot 15
    Porter Cable 7424XP
    Griot's Garage 6" DA
    Meguiar's G110v2
    Griot's 3" Mini Polisher

    Newbies and Seasoned Veterans
We had a large turnout of people last night that included both seasoned veterans in the detailing industry as well as people that had never machine polished paint before and had previously always worked by hand. As long as you're using quality product and then matching them to the right pads and tools for the job, plus a little hands on training, it's easy to get professional results the first time and every time.

    Here are the results.

After machine applying the Pinnacle Liquid Souveran we broke for pizza and let the wax dry to a haze.

Afterwards the wax was removed very carefully so as to protect all the compounding and polishing results which brought the paint up to the waxing step.

    Here's the products used....

You can get all these products on Autogeek.net

    Pinnacle Advanced Compound

    Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish

    Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Car Wax

    Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay

    Pinnacle Clay Lubricant

Super Soft Deluxe Green Microfiber Towels with Rolled Edges - 6 Pack

    Pinnacle Crystal Mist Detail Spray
(This is the product you use to maintain the results)

    Personal recomendation...
For all the compounding, polishing and future application and removal of the Pinnacle Crystal Mist Detail Spray you really need at least a dozen high quality microfiber towels like the Gold Plus Jr. microfiber towels.

Take my word for it these are nice towels and we go through a LOT of them for projects like these and to take care of just one car for a project like these a dozen would be the minimum amount. If you want to be stocked up so you never run out of clean towels in the middle of the project then get 2 dozen.

The other benefit is you only want to wash like towels with like towels, with a dozen or two it makes it practical to run your towels through either a small or medium size wash load all by themselves. Treat your high quality towels like any of your prized tool by taking care of them and in return they will take care of your car's finish.

Another great night at Autogeek Show Car Garage.

Yesterday also marked 1 year and 1 week anniversary since my first Thursday night makeover. It's been great experience. And this year looks even more promising.

Huge thanks to all the car owners who trust us with their cars.

    See you next time.

P.S. Hopefully next time I get my hands on MT300 also

    Wow! Amazing results team.

They both look absolutely stunning - the yellow on the Olds looks like glass in that front on picture. Gotta love the stance on the Charger - looks like it means business!

Awesome work everyone involved . . . so very very envious of you all for being able to take part in these projects. What a way to spend a Thursday night.

Looking forward to getting my Pinnacle Advanced Compound & Polish. A beautiful product to work with.

Thank you for the pictures Mike - superb!

    Aaryn NZ.
