Last night we did a show car makeover to Bob and Darlene's all original, low-mileage 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL with the original single stage paint.



First here's all the products we used to go over the outside and the inside and restore this 27 year old car back to factory fresh.

What a beauty , you and the guys did a great job Mike.

Did you use #7 first as usual Mike? I know that its an important step for oxidized single stage, But the car had some gloss when it came in, Did you approach it differently?

Wow, car looked pretty good as it.was, now it is just ridiculous.

Actually, the day it arrived it was cloudy outside so I wasn't able to photograph the true condition of the paint. BEFORE we started I did take pictures of the swirls using the FLEX Swirl Finder Light and I'll post those as soon as I get time.

I also used the Defelsko Paint Thickness Gauge to take measurements of the paint thickness over the various horizontal panels.

What a beauty , you and the guys did a great job Mike.

Teamwork got the job done. We did use the Griot's 6" DA Polisher with Wolfgang Uber Compound and get this.... Lake Country white foam POLISHING pads, not cutting pads.

You guessed it.

We machine applied #7 AFTER the last machine polishing step and then applied Wolfgang Fuzion.

I'll explain why when I get back to this thread but right now I need to do some work for Velocity TV.

Believe me that car came out great.I love it when only a small amount of experienced guys show up to do these small cars.Nobody`s tripping over each other and we work well together.As an added bonus there`s more pizza to go around as well.

I agree. The pictures don't do the results justince and working on single stage paint is my favorite.


It's about 7:00am Saturday morning as I type this and the car is on display in the Show Car Garage for this morning's Tech Session at Autogeek's Cars & Coffee show.
