Re: Pictures & Commnets from September 19th Detailing 102 Class

Great class! Three things were exceptionally cool about Sunday's class: 1) The various high speed buffers that were available to try out, 2) The various products available to experiment with, and 3) Learning to wet sand by hand and then machine.

Buffers: I think Mike had 4 or 5 different high speed buffers to tryout and 4 DA polishers to try. (If you want to detail and don't know which machine to use, this is a great class to give them all a "test drive": Makita, DeWalt, PC, Meguiar's, Flex, Griots) I always wanted to tryout a high speed buffer and it was a gas.

Different Products: We had the chance to use Mother's, Meguiar's, Optimum, and Menzerna. Again, if you want to detail, this is a great opportunity to try different products up close and in person.
Mike often asked the class, "Did you get to try the machine(s) and products you wanted to try?"

Wet-sanding: I've always been curious about wet-sanding a car, but I sure wasn't going to learn on my new Rav4. In this class I had an opportunity to wet-sand the hood of a car by hand and machine. I feel comfortable enough to now do some wet-sanding, which I'll soon do on my son's Scion.

If you've never met Mike Phillips, the dude is a very approachable guy, great teacher, and very patient with those with limited skills and those with very advanced skills. This was a fantastic weekend and worth flying in from Texas to attend.

Thanks again Mike for a great weekend, Max for allowing us to invade your facility, Dwayne, Megan, and the Autogeek staff for giving up a weekend to make us feel welcomed, help out, and fill special orders.

If you like detailing cars (or boats) and this weekend is offered again, take it.

Then we ended the class with what would be the last step if you were working on paint older than 30 days air-cure or factory cured paint and that is we sealed the paint with a coat of Wolfgang Fuzion by machine...

Hanging out talking shop in the Show Car Garage Studio/Classroom...

    Hugo getting his Certificate...

    Jay and me...

    Shane our special guest...

    Meghan and Shane...

That's all the pictures... again, thank you to everyone that attended... I hope you all had as much fun as myself and the rest of the Autogeek gang....

Very cool pictures Mike, was a great weekend, first time I really got to spend a little time to "sit in" on the classes. Lots of great information and great people to share the detailing passion with.

    Very COOL, Mike!

What size wool pad was Tanya using with the 3403?

Also, after M205 with the rotary, what polish was everyone using with the DA to ensure a swirl free finish?

Mark, I believe it was a 7" pad on the 3403.

There were 4 different stations set up with different rotary / product / da setups. So to answer your question it was 205 / optimum spray polish / Menz 85rd / mothers professional machine glaze.

    It was a great class.

Thanks Jon. That's awesome you were able to attend!

Was it the wool pad that Meguiar's offers in 7"?

I'm looking to buy a 3403 and want to figure out which wool pad works best.

Thanks Mike again for everything. I had never used a rotary before and now i feel way more comfortable. Once again it is great to learn from a teacher who is so knowledgeful and passionate about what they do, it really makes these classes so much more beneficial. Thanks everyone at Autogeek, and i will be at every event you guys throw in the future. Dwayne told me Patron was there last year, hopefully they will come this year as well. I love Patron Silver.
    Thanks Paul
