We lost an ICON 25 yrs ago today...SRV
I can't believe its been 25 years since the world lost Stevie Ray Vaughan. I remember working at a stamping plant in metro Detroit and I was on lunch, cleaning the engine bay of my 78' Caprice Classic and had the radio on and the news came over the radio..."sad news in the world of music today, SRV was killed in a helicopter crash leaving Alpine Valley ampitheater". I knew who he was and always wanted to see him with my uncle who lived in Texas for a while and told me about him but sadly never got around to it.
By the time I was in my mid 20's I had really gotten into his music and he's a guitar string behind my favorite of all time, Jimi Hendrix, who SRV drew so much of his look and sound, but at the same time put his own "stamp" on it.
If your remotely into music listen to or watch one of his videos on YouTube today and just think of what could've been!

....there are many more, like his sessions with Albert King for instance, where he's taken under his wing, classic!

Wow, there is just so much to digest in that paragraph...first of all, I didn't think you were that old...stamping plant--cool!...engine bay of your Caprice...I don't think I ever would have been cleaning an engine bay back then...I mean, take the leaves out of it...of course I used to paint the trans pan on my old TH350 every time I would change the fluid...305 4-bbl, right? That was a good year, just before they went to the MCC carbs IIRC, or was that not '79 when they did that? I know they had them by '82, maybe it was '81.

Well actually it originally had a 305 2 barrel but by 89' it had a "slightly" built 350.
Yeah I was 20 years old when SRV died and was into metal and hard rock back then but did know who he was.
The entire El Macombo concert was released on DVD and is breath taking! The Austin City Limits concerts from 83 and 89 are also must watches. There's also a documentary that VH1 did called "Legends" on SRV that's very well done, a little hard to find I bet.
RIP SRV!

There have been many great ones gone before their prime in music. He was one of them. That is the beauty of music, it lives on long after the artist leaves us. His songs are still played on radio today!

Another ironic fact about the death of SRV is he died on the very same day his Dad did 4 years earlier. Also Eric Clapton gave up his seat on that chopper for SRV!

Ha, my friend had a '77 maybe that was a 2-bbl after all...it was a long time ago. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled music program.

My brother just sent me a youtube link..."Hitler struggles to nail Stevie Ray's tone". You must look it up. Not sure what movie the clip originally came from, but it has fantastically modified subtitles.
SRV was so good.

350's had the 4 barrel carbs and the 305's had the 2 barrels in the Caprice/Impala's. The cams were so soft, my Grandpa had his replaced not to long after he got the car, I remember my Dad telling me this and then the replacement went bad when I had the car for a bit.
Love how the thread about SRV brought up as much attention about cars but so is life and they go hand in hand

I was very fortunate to see SRV 4 years earlier at Poplar Creek ILL.
I was sitting at home that afternoon in Chicago, after a day of work, watching WGN, when Buddy Guy came on.
Hard to believe so much time has passed.
