My espresso machine just crapped out. I think it was a bad solenoid and solenoid valve. I spoke with a few repair shops around the city, and they all said that they don't repair Breville espresso makers because the repair costs end up being similar to the value of the unit. Somewhat of a bummer. I love espresso. So, I'm in the market for another espresso machine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have some suggestions, but they're not cheap. The higher end Breville's are about as low as you can go price wise and get a decent espresso shot. The first question is whether your Breville had grinder. If yes, then you may need to consider a grinder as well if you're not getting another Breville. If you haven't looked at espresso grinder prices, brace yourself.

For a stand alone machine check out Astra. US made and quite good. They don't have all the buzz of the high end imported machines, but they are well made and work. I used one for years before upgrading to a more expensive double boiler machine. In retrospect it wasn't worth it. The Astra pulled shots that were just as good. Thought I needed something better. I did not.

There are many other good espresso machines. It's a matter of what you want to spend, what features you want, brand preference, maintenance, etc.
