What do you do with your car cover?

So I just purchased a real nice Cover King satin car cover for my mustang. It's one of the real nice form fitting ones. Anyways, I know the proper technique of how to put it on and remove it, but I am curious as to when you guys do and do not put them on?

For example, my car is clean and I take it out for a nice drive. When I get home can I just pull it in the garage and put the cover on or do I need to do a quick detail first? Is it a big no-no to put it on if it has the slightest amount of dust on it?

The car is a garage queen and will very rarely ever get real dirty. Thanks

I would do a quick detail before putting on the car cover

The only time my covers ever go on is immediately after the vehicles have been washed. Otherwise it's not worth the risk of trapping something under the cover and have it grind it into your paint.

If the paint is not clean (even if it looks clean) then putting the cover on is going to put fine scatches on the paint. You have to do it after you wash and dry the car.

Donate it to Goodwill for a tax deduction

This is probably when a waterless/rinseless wash would be worth to use. I don`t have a super expensive cover like that one, but I will not cover my car even if I drove it for a day without at least spray detailing.

I always do a quick detail before I put it on either my '69 Shelby, which is red or my '09 Accord coupe which is black. You don't want to be transferring any road grime to the inside of the cover.

and do exactly the same thing. If you really want to protect it, there are other options:

Indoor Inflatable Car Capsule - Car Covers - Car Maintenance - Griot's Garage

    A little too pricey IMO
