    Mystery Snake

    Mystery Snake

This guy was hanging out at the pool last Sunday afternoon, I scared him off using a very long pole at the pool.

Was wondering if anyone can identify it?

    Wicked serious look to him....

Wicked scary... Glad you were able to scare him off safely.

As for ID: I'd check here:

Yikes, that's a pretty big snake, Mike! Where is Maxy when you need him (naturalist and member of another detailing forum)?

Last summer my wife Stacy killed this with a Butcher Knife in our front yard...

And yes, this is the real deal... a Coral Snake

She saw another Coral Snake about a month ago in the same place...

FWIW that site says that snake is only found in the Florida panhandle.

    Re: Mystery Snake

Looks like what we call Coachwhip in Louisiana. Online description is:

25-90 inches. Usually dark brown or black anteriorly, becoming tan or reddish on the body or tail; some individuals entirely black above; underside dirty white or pink. Juveniles are tan with narrow, irregular black crossbars on the body. The scales are smooth and in 17 rows.
