Pressure washer water pump replacement

Not a dedicated detailing tool but I know lots of you guys (and gals) use one...

I have an Excell 2300 psi powerwasher (model vr2300) bought at Home Depot. The outlet pipe has a crack in it. I already tried getting it welded but the weld didn't hold.

The "oem" replacement pump is $200. The pressure washer cost $300 new so spending $200 doesn't really seem logical. There is an aftermarket pump that is $150 and is described as an upgrade.

Has anyone replaced a water pump?

If you have replaced a pump, is it worthwhile, i.e. do you run into problems with the pump compatibility later? Any issues?

If I decide to replace the whole pressure washer, I would spend a bit more in the $400-$500 range. It's not something I could financially take on right now. The pressure is just for home cleaning outside (and possibly to be used on my cars) so I don't NEED IT right now...I would rather go w/o the pressure washer for the time being rather than spend money on a pump that would just be more aggravation than it's worth.

i personally would just buy the new pressure washer. Replacing the pump head will more than likely be a real pita, and for $150, i don't know if its really worth it.

My Sears pressure washer pump failed last fall and I was thinking the same thing (fix or replace). I think I'll just get a new one and since the motor runs so good I'll try to find someone who wants it.

Over 50% of the cost is a instant replacement unit. Same for home appliances. I just had to spring for a new washer/dryer, dishwasher and stove. They all had to go at the same time, just my luck.

I know how you feel...my shower tile failed so I'm renovating the bath (while I had a dining room renovation in progress). My furnace failed - had to get that repaired. On top of that, I had to get a new car because the trans went on the 12 year old, 200Kmile old car. Gotta roll with the punches some times...I told my kids that this is why we need to save our money when we can.

Regarding the pressure washer...any recommendations? Most of the HD/Lowes brands seem to be rated for <100 hrs of work. $500 would be my limit.

I know a couple people that have a ridgid 3000psi w/a cat-pump from home depot, they like it. Other than that, most commercial strength washers are going to be pricey.

that rigid is a good lookin p/w..ive looked into it. as far as replacing your pump, look for a cat pump or go to a small engine/ lawnmower repairshop. i recently saw a cat pump (refurbished) on CL for $225.

Take a look at apwdistributing dot com. Lots of info on PW. It's the next place that I will buy a new PW when mine dies.
