Protection package
Recently looking for a new car for the wife and found one but it came with a mandatory package I'm not familiar with.
I'm guessing it's junk?

Re: Protection package
before I bought the truck I have now a dealer tried to pull that on me.
I called bullchit and they would not budge...I bought from another dealer that didn't have such nonsense added to the invoice.
The dealer I went with told me flat out......they are RIPPING people off....plain and simple...
They might be added some protection to the paint, but it's an inferior product for sure.....

Re: Protection package
That is a way for dealers to make money and with supply for some vehicles, they can or think they can get away with it. Junk.

Re: Protection package
We drove up to look at it,over spray all over the interior and stained new leather seats from droplets.
Overall very half asked job, they basically ruined a new lincoln corsair.

Re: Protection package
I was a general manager of a Porsche Audi BMW dealership for about 10 years, this is totally a rip off, and anybody that says it’s mandatory is telling you to go somewhere else. This was marked up about 800% from its cost on most cars…

There’s your answer to your original question right there
Sadly it seems to be the norm at car dealerships any more
I’m sure there are good ones out there but I haven’t run into one in decades

Re: Protection package
I have 2 buddies that picked up new trucks this year, the protection packages were optional so I was surprised that it was mandatory.
We found a similar build coming to a local dealer we put a deposit on,no upcharge and sold for xplan price.

It is dealer specific as well as model specific. When people are lining up to buy cars that come in a month or two from now (or longer), dealers have more power. Regular market forces follow supply and demand.
