You don't have to take the insurance companies first offer. Make sure you get market price especially with the current market. What a kick in the nuts but glad you're ok. It was a beautiful vehicle.

Thanks guys, it was an A7 with a lot of mods. We spent the day yesterday online shopping and did some tire kicking. It’s going to be so hard to find a replacement for such a monster of a car.

That is a heartbreaker John, but you and your loved ones are safe and that is a blessing. The airbags actually do serve a purpose and they do work. Take the insurance money and spend it on your next project vehicle.
I believe in treating everybody with respect, and clean cars. That’s what I believe in.

Start doing some research on similar cars are selling for. Having worked for an insurance company, both in the office and in the field, you're taught from day one to pay the claim as if it were coming out of your pocket. You will need solid data if the offer comes in too low. As far as the mods go, and assessing their value, that is up to your insurance company. When I was handling totalled cars, modifications were seldom significant in determining a value.

Sorry to hear about your accident...but definitely glad you guys are ok! 2015-2016 RS7's can be bought for a great price now. You had an awesome ride, but with a little patience a replacement (A7, S7, or RS7) can be had. My '15 RS7 was a monster, sold it to my best friend, and he is enjoying the heck out of it. That platform is killer.

Re: Not how I wanted my weekend to start
Well it shouldn’t be any shocker but the car was totaled out, with 140k miles they put the value at $21k and I was more than happy with that. I also have new car replacement coverage so that was an extra 20%. I loved that car, put 100k miles on it over 5 years and loved almost every minute of it. The only downside was the maint costs, the “Audi tax”.
I had very specific requirements for my next vehicle: AWD, radar cruise control, under $30k and something with good gas mileage. Our runway is closed for the next 2 years so I’m driving to the Lincoln ANG base every day, those miles add up quick to the tune of 500 miles a week. I couldn’t buy another luxury car and put almost 30k miles a year on it, so I went to a VERY boring simple to own car. Found a 2020 Subaru Legacy Sport with 15k miles and got it for $26,500. I only needed to finance $10k, so my payment is close to 60% less than before and my insurance went down $600 every 6 months. The tech in this car is surprising and because it’s so slow and a polar opposite of the Audi I find myself laughing as I’m driving around town, its just so silly and slow I really enjoy it. Incredibly comfortable seats too!
The paint has a REALLY nice flake to it, and after I get it polished up I’ll be coating with UK and SiC. I also couldn’t resist going to the car wash…it’s been a LONG time since I went though a tunnel wash, and damn did it feel good to not give a crap for a change.
I’ll be back at some point in an Audi, but for now I gotta go get a pumpkin spice latte and put my Berkinstocks on.
