QUESTION - Can 2020 Corvette C8 carbon fiber package be coated?

I had a customer contact me to detail his C8 Corvette. He was looking for a simple interior/exterior and I tired to sell him on a ceramic coating since a car like that deserves the best protection it can get.

He originally purchased a coating through the dealership when he bought the car, but after adding the carbon fiber package, they refunded him the portion for the ceramic because they said it would ruin the car. This is the first time I've ever heard of a case where a vehicle could not be ceramic coated. Has anyone done one of the new vettes with the carbon fiber package or does anyone know if there is anything special about the carbon fiber on the vette that would make this true?

I am wondering if the dealership was using a garbage coating product that interfered with the carbon fiber, or maybe they where using IR lights to cure the coating which would have affected the finish?

I had a C7 with carbon fiber on it and had no problem using a quality coating like CQUK, you might ask your question over at corvetteforum.com

There is no reason not to coat any carbon fiber. 'Dry' carbon fiber, that is CF without a clear coat, can still be coated, it will darken the appearance of it though.

The CF used on the C8 is 'standard' CF and is cleared. The dealer obviously and unfortunately doesn't and didn't know what the heck they were talking about.

(but good for your client since he got some $$ back on the garbage they applied at the dealer)


In a nutshell: CF can be coated. No reason it can not.

I assumed that the Carbon Fiber was clear coated, especially on a production sports car like this, but wanted to confirm with someone who's had experience with them. I'll let my customer know and let him make the decision.

I bet the dealer saw carbon fiber on the order form and because it was 'not painted' assumed that it couldn't be coated. Probably will work out in my customer's favor in the end anyway.
