I looked it up and it resembles a wolf spider to me. Based on another post by Big Dave complaining of the heat, I’m going to assume he is from down under or similar. And if so, the brown recluse isn’t native to that area.

Yes, it's a Garden Wolf Spider, apparently a painful bite, but not lethal. Second row, on right. We've also got Redbacks around here as well. And yes, I'm down under, about 2 hours north of Sydney, near Newcastle. Our house is so new, barely 12 months, it doesn't show up on Google Maps. I even had to tell them where it was on the map, people would look it up and go to the wrong place. 2 years ago it was farmland.

I found this nasty guy a few weeks ago at work.
These highly venomous spiders are best avoided!

Re: What's in your backyard?
When I helped my brother move house last Feb, we used a hired van to move most of his plants, some had been in his backyard for almost 10 years. It wasn't till we were getting the plants out of the van at the new house that we saw all the Redbacks on them, there must have been at least 10 or more, some as big as the one in DFB's pic. Luckily whenever I move stuff like that, I'm always gloved up, and I was the only one who was.
