Part of me would like to learn how to do PDR.

And Plasti Dip is cool. I recently covered up a large portion of paint that had peeled off of my fathers truck using white plasti dip. It sort of looks like a patch, but it beats what it looked like before and if I hadn’t done it the hole would’ve only kept getting bigger.

There are ways to make that look better. Go on Pinterest and look up two toned cars or rally stripe cars and you can get some ideas. You have to use the body lines to make breaks. Notice the secondary stripe around a rally stripe. Something like that helps with the transition.

Mine would probably look like a complete hack job compared to a proper job... I did tape off, but you’ll see in these pics.

This is what I needed to cover up and prevent from spreading any further.

I taped off, and sprayed about 6-7 coats of Plasti Dip, and this was the final result. It’s holding up fine so far after a couple of months.

Yeah, so now you know it will work. If you do it a second time, maybe consider instead of painting over the body line, running masking tape over the body line about 1/4" (top down). Then as you spray coats of the product, change the spray angle to increasingly go further up the curve (so you don't get a hardpaint line). Maybe do the whole panel from the body line down?

There would still be a color difference. But it would look ok.

That being said, if the paint was good everywhere else, you might want to strip the panel; get it primed and ready for paint; then pay someone to spray it (Or, tell them it's a project for you and just get the base sprayed. Get some 2k clear ($20-25)and spray it yourself.).

Subbed! Interested in the project and I’m sure learning something along the way.

So this advanced turbine sprayer system sells for $340-400

I got it used for $180 with a bunch of accessories thrown in

About twice as powerful as the basic sprayer I had.

It will atomize the dip better and spray even smoother!

Also ordered DYC’s Ceramic Coating for Dip Armor. The dip and dip armor has to cure for 30+ days before I can ceramic coat it
