Re: What's everyone's thoughts on the Covid-19 situation?

Speaking as someone from Canada, I was shocked when I spoke to American friends that were telling me about how late the responses were and how they were from a municipal level for some places.

For me in my line of work, COVID actually made me busier. I went from working 35-40-ish hours a week to doing around 70-ish a week. I'm in management so for me, it was non-stop hiring for a while, and operational planning. To be honest, and not to take anything away from how seriously impacted a lot of people have been but for me, the COVID scenario happening actually landed me a raise and a promotion.

Re: What's everyone's thoughts on the Covid-19 situation?

My thoughts? Well, since you asked:

    1. What we know for certain, undeniable and irrefutable facts: It kills people. Aside from that I'm not sure we KNOW anything for sure. Lotsa theories, lotsa ideas, lotsa hopes but little definitive information. Tin-Foil hat wearing folks aside (and who knows, maybe they'll be proven right in the end) it's a lot of conjecture.

    2. Statistics and Testing: Anytime a testing diagnosis is monetized, may as well throw accuracy out the window. Throw in the inaccuracy of testing itself and, well, who knows what the real story is. To wit:

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Epidemiologists with the Washington State Department of Health believe COVID-19-related deaths are likely being undercounted in Washington.
"We currently do have some deaths that are being reported that are clearly from other causes. We have about 5 deaths less than 5 deaths that we know of that are related to obvious other causes. In this case, they are from gunshot wounds," Hutchison said.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns reopened their building on Sunday and practice was back on at 3 p.m. after it was determined that all of their double-digit positive COVID-19 tests from Saturday were false positives.
If an organization (NFL) w/ large profits at stake can't even get consistent, accurate testing while under the microscope given all the access and resources they have at their disposal, it certainly calls some things into question.

Are the stats under-reported or over-reported? Who knows, I sure don't but it does raise an eyebrow in either case. Unfortunately, you have to rely on (your chosen) media source for information, an institution that has also been 'occasionally' exposed as somewhat less-than objective and/or accurate...whatever their leaning may be.

Aside from the tragic deaths brought about by COVID, the side effect has been the exposure of significant members of society as selfish, self-righteous and self-indulgent, folks who can't get past or put aside their own opinions in deference to the feelings of others who do not share those views or are just plain too scared to form any concrete views yet who still prefer to err on the side of caution, warranted or not. And that group may very well include myself at times, I have no illusion that many of my thoughts and actions are not driven by self-interest...."Know Thyself..." and all.

The Greatest Generation, those folks who at the age 20 and under, willingly faced the horrors of war in Europe and the Pacific with little complaint, protest or question would likely hang their head in shame at what some today consider an inalienable right to be an a**hat despite how it affects others around them.

Those who study these types of things are gonna have a field day when (or if) we come out the other side of this; hopefully we will but Mother Nature is a cruel teacher and at the end of the day, w/ regard to life as a whole (even in the best of times), nobody gets out alive.

So, what I *think* about COVID-19 is many things, what I *KNOW* about COVID-19 is nothing and I'm guessing I'm not alone. I am quite blessed to have been, as of yet, only slightly inconvenienced by COVID but am also aware that could change in the blink of an eye....and there's really not that much I can do about it.

This virus is real...yes, but not as deadly as we are being told to believe it is.

Big government pitting covid vaccinated folks against unvaccinated....unreal, what a joke. Ya want to get it....then get it. If ya dont then dont.

I wish it was as simple as those that wanted to get the vaccine, then fine, but that is ignorant thinking and the virus doesn't care what anyone's thoughts or beliefs are on the matter. The more people that get infected, the more opportunities viruses have to mutate to new strains. And has been seen by the Delta variant, future variants could be worse in any number of ways. There are currently 11 variants of Covid that have been identified though the Delta variant is the one that currently has hospitals and ICUs near capacity. And I've been by multiple hospitals that have had to bring in refrigerated trucks to stack the dead from this pandemic.

Really, I would be glad to let people have their freedoms and make their own determinations but being a part of society does need to put society at some level. If you really want to do whatever the hell it is you want to do, then don't interact with society. No school, no restaurants, no jobs working with others, etc. Otherwise, if you want to be a part of society, a community, then some level of accountability should be included in the "my freedoms" decisions.

I'd also say that I'd rather we attack this, defeat it, and move on. Our fractured response has resulted in this pandemic going on longer than it should have.

We aren't going to defeat a corona virus even if everyone is vaxed. Time to move on and get back to normal while dealing with what fauci and others condoned and brought to life.

Yeah we should just move on.... till you or someone has a different issue but can’t get into an ICU because it’s filled with Covid 19 patients.

Vaccine mat not be the cure but not getting it and just moving on definitely isn’t.

BS & disinformation. We have had multiple diseases virtually eliminated via vaccine ... until anti-vaxxers ruined it. Measles was declared eliminated from the U.S. in 2000. Now it has lost that designation. Gee, wonder why ...

Time to move on and get back to normal while dealing with what fauci and others condoned and brought to life.

Oh, right, Fauci & Co. caused all this. More BS.

    FACTS :

    1. Scientists (and that includes Drs.) take the path of total precaution when dealing with an unknown.
    2. Scientists follow the DATA, not what Joe Rogan or some other idiot says on his podcast or FAUX News. And guess what, data evolves and changes, esp. as you collect more of it. And all the FAUXers blasting vax disinformation on purpose ... they're all vaccinated.

I despise the people who are attacking our Drs. and healthcare workers over COVID-45. But even as much as I despise that, I despise LIARS even more. And a LIAR and his supporters are the primary cause of the virus situation in the U.S. right now.

Trump in early spring of 2020 ...

TRUMP (public) : And, again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done. It's going to disappear one day. It's like a miracle. It will disappear.

TRUMP (public) : Now I guess we're at 26 deaths. And if you look at the flu, the flu for this year, we're at eight - we're looking at 8,000 deaths. And, you know, hundreds of thousands of cases - we have 8,000 deaths. So you have 8,000 versus 26 deaths at this time.

Meanwhile, during the same time period ...

TRUMP (in recording to Bob Woodward) : It goes through air, Bob. That's always tougher than the touch. You know, the touch - you don't have to touch things, right? But the air, you just breathe the air. That's how it's passed. And so that's a very tricky one. That's a very delicate one.

TRUMP (in same recording to Bob Woodward) : It's also more deadly than your - you know, your - even your strenuous flus.

TRUMP (in same recording to Bob Woodward) : I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down...

A beaucoup of hospitals around the U.S. have had to move to "crisis care standards" because of all the COVID-45 patients.

For the deniers, that means that hospitals are having to severely ration their medical care and prioritize patient treatments based solely on their chance of survival.

Not to mention that healthcare workers in general are dropping like flies from exhaustion/burnout. Of course the COVID-45 deniers will brush that off and instead claim that the Drs. and others are doing this so they can make a lot of money.

Vaccine mat not be the cure but not getting it and just moving on definitely isn’t.
Correct, it is not a cure, but rather the most powerful tool for containing the virus.

We have proven that we can contain a virus to the point where the disease it causes is eliminated. Measles again being the perfect example. However, that example also shows how the virus can be "let back out of the bottle" because of the actions of a few morons (anti-vaxxers).

Also, you do not have to have a vaccine to contain a virus, it can be done through the safety protocols that the COVID-45 deniers also don't like ... masking, social distancing, temp checks, etc. But this also raises another point as to why the U.S. is such a sh!thole for COVID-45 ... there has never been a real lockdown anywhere in the U.S. to contain and isolate COVID-45.

The U.S. accounts for a little less than 4% of the world's population yet we are responsible for almost 20% of the COVID-45 infections to date.

It's not all gloom and doom. There are a few countries which have weathered the storm and are in good shape, mainly because of following the Drs., scientists, and safety protocols, as most countries do not have the bounty of vaccines available to them yet. And if/when they have a local outbreak, they contain and isolate it.

Denmark is probably the best example of how it's done, they're pretty much back "open". They even advertise the fact that they achieved this status because "we followed the scientists and Drs.".
