Plastip Silverado project. First full vehicle dip

I'm about to undertake my largest plastidip project.

I will be plastidipping my 04 Silverado
I deliver the color is called Dude Blue

I have been researching for a while. Acruing the tools and knowledge over the past couple of months.

The gallons arrived over the weekend.

I have a lot of prep work to do soon. I will update the thread as the project progresses

Very cool. Thank you for sharing this project. I've always wanted to do this, that is paint a car with plasti-dip.

It takes time to take the pictures and then share them, I know from years of doing this. So anytime someone else takes the time to STOP what they are doing and take a picture and then later when they are tired, "do something with the pictures", (like post them to a forum), I for one appreciate it.

A monkey can be trained to post a picture to facebook, so it has so much less value.

    Keep up up to date.

I have two gallons to practice with
One of the base gray and one of the frozen blue

I am getting a hood to practice on and I may practice on my wall mount pressure washer setup too

I have two sprayer systems and my dad will be there to assist. I'll try to get plenty of pictures throughout the process

    I'm excited to attempt it

Good luck with your huge project. How long do you expect the dip to last?

Awesome project! I love dip! I've done one whole vehicle and many many wheels/grills/emblems/etc.

Its durability it surprisingly long. I've had wheels last around 2-2.5 years and still looked great.

Keep us posted, I am in for pics!

I use dip on lots of things and it last a long time years if you use the glosifier and have it plenty thick. The thicker it is the more durable it will be. The glosifier will help protect it from uv fading it. But even without it if its thick enough itll last years if taken care of.

They also make matte clear if you wanted to keep it matte and it would protect it from uv fading too. I use the matte clear on headlights and then spray glossifer over it and its like clear bra over the lights. Its cheap and very durable

Re: Plastip Silverado project. First full vehicle dip

    Started some prep

Removed the huge lower door trim
    Goo gone
    Heat gun
    Eraser wheel
    Steamer

Removed the letters on the tailgate. It didn't remove nearly as easy as the side trim
The adhesive is so old and so thick. It's too wet to get the eraser wheel to grab on I'll let it dry fully and try to tackle that super thick left over adhesive tomorrow
