Re: Plastip Silverado project. First full vehicle dip

    Public service announcement

This may be common knowledge but.....
If you change the color of your vehicle you may get pulled over for it.

Dad and I were coming back from a card game and we got pulled over in Florence.

Cop was super polite. He said the tag came bag registered to a black truck. He asked if I had it painted recently.

Yeah I painted it a week ago.

He said to call the court house/tag place and let them know and find out what's next. He wasn't entirely sure as it must be fairly uncommon.

    No ticket.

More importantly I won $175 at the poker game
    $25 buy in tournament style

Plastip Silverado project. First full vehicle dip

Yeh because ive never had an issue in maryland. Even thru all the cars ive had and ive been pulled over plenty and nope never questioned. That is interesting tho and probably varies by state and location. I just know ive never had issues in all vehicles ive changed color on. Well now we know it varies. And yep the comment jinxed you totally

The cop didn’t even know what I needed to do to fix it either. It seemed uncommon for him. He has a scanner in his his car that noticed the tag didn’t match the color truck. He was super cool. He liked the plastidip job too .

Re: Plastip Silverado project. First full vehicle dip

If it was me, relative to the runs, this would be my decision process...

First, decide if you want to live with it or fix it.

If you decide you want to fix it, then try sanding it lightly with something like 220 grit. Skip the bondo step you mentioned - that is completely unnecessary in my opinion and will just create additional risk and work. Not knowing the sanding characteristics of the coating you'll just need to experiment a little to see how achievable the result you want is. If the sanding is successful then reapply the clear.

If sanding doesn't produce the result you want, then I'd just peel the coating from the affected panels and redo from scratch. Hopefully you still have some left-over color coat material so color matching shouldn't be an issue. If you don't have any left-over color coat, then be sure to consider the potential color mismatch in your decision process.

Well the bonds/putty would add a bit more sanding but it would also protect the clear coat and maybe prevent me sanding through it. Not sure what I will do yet. It looks pretty great from 7+ feet .

    First wash
Dried and applied a "ceramic detail spray" cheap product found elsewhere that I have an abundance of. I highly doubt it is really anything ceramic but it smells awesome

I haven’t mentioned jinxing at all. I thought it was funny. Called them today. I have to take it in person to get it visually inspected to update their info
