1995 Jeep Wrangler: What is this?

What does this appear to be and can it be buffed to remove the black spots?

I told her I can come back to conduct a test to see.

Can mold grow into the paint?

    How about the soft top?

Can anything be down to clean and fix this?

That looks like it was parked under a pine tree for years. Just awful.

Looks to me that tree sap has etched into the paint.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Wow, that looks gross, but I think it is very much fixable.

I would pressure wash both the paint and top. I would guess a lot of that will be removed with water and washing. I would try an aggressive wash method. Maybe some bug sponges or cotton terry towels. The top I would try an APC and medium stiffness brush. Test spot on the top to make sure whatever brush you use doesn’t change the texture of the fabric.

Looking forward to see what results your test spot on the paint reveals.

She is surrounded by pines for sure.

    Must be the culprit.

I test it out soon hopefully and any updates will be here.

I just did a 1995 wrangler in white and it was a pain to make it shine. The paint looks like it was in the shape as the one I did. Definitely need an aggressive wash method and I used a carpet brush with APC on the top, came out great.

Yeah you may be able to remove a lot of it but at how many hours and would she be willing to pay for your work? I've done some like this but always wanted a big deposit up front. Once a job is finished there ARE people who start stammering and bargaining about the price; then what do you do? Personally I'd discuss the issue up front and get a payment but even then...

Re: 1995 Jeep Wrangler: What is this?

Looks like old tree sap and or some moss and or some soot. I would look into the RV section to handle the soft top. And also the paint cleaning I would do that with a product that are great on those black running streaks on RVs. Then a tar and tre sap remover like carpro TarX or anything like it. Just prepare your customer that it could be etched through the paint or very deep. And aggressive clay or clay alternatives would maybe help with the last dirt after this. A pre-wax cleaner also has some great cleaning ability even if used by hand to clean some really dirty paints. So you don't scratch it up with a polisher to much.

Just charge accordingly the top may be time consuming as the paint will be too. That stuff is sorta tough to get off. Charge at least 2-3 times what you would charge for a near new car

There are many methods to remove. You just have to try a few and see what you like best.

Are you polishing and compounding after removal?

Dan, it does look horrible but it can definitely be saved. Aggressive wash method for sure. HD Speed, Blackfire OneStep, or Megs D166 should all be able to bring life back to the paint- i would suggest using a microfiber pad.

My wife chooses to park outside during the warm months (she is a night shift nurse so it is just easier on her tired brain to pull into the driveway and drag herself in the house) so her paint gets beat by all the trees over our driveway- Aggressive wash method and D166 shines her silver 09 Forester right back up!

The top on that Jeep should come back to life, but it will just take some tedious scrubbing.
