Re: What did you do today non-detailing related?
2014 Corolla Prep for College began this week: Turned 92k miles so it needed a little mechanical love.
- Oil Changed
- Coolant drained & filled (no flush)
- Serpentine Belt Changed, PIA [emoji2959]
- Tires Rotated
- Transmission Fluid Changed, 1st time; 8 qts, who knew....
- PCV Valve changed, no more whistling sound [emoji23]
- Polished out & 2k Cleared up the headlights too
- Rear rotors & pads ordered up online $100
- Gotta do the CR-V brakes first then the Corolla
Checked out a set of new component speakers for it too so Nick can roll with better sound. $100 cheap but better than what's in there. Kids today aren't audiofiles anyway. Beside the drivers door mid range is shot. That will be a fun father son install.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...817f4d57ac.jpg

Lockdown Day 9 -
FINALLY managed to finish off mulching my back garden.
I find having a tarp down first makes the cleanup of all the dregs at the end much easier.

Once I had that all emptied, I was on a roll and decided to refresh the gravel paths. Again, a job that I have had on the to do list for too long. The extra time on my hands allows me get this one off the list too.

1.5 cubic metres of rock certainly had an effect on rear ride height!

Many wheel barrows later, the cleanup involved simply gathered the ends of the tarp and tipping the dregs into the barrow.

This is a garden that will now be much easier for me to maintain and be more forgiving of neglect than before. It's just a matter of letting things grown now, watering and mowing as required. You will also notice a bare patch in the lawn, which was once home to very large Acer Negundo. Over the years, the underground root structure has rotted away and the ground had subsided. Again, another one day job, today I filled it in and now the wait begins for the lawn, like the rest of the garden, for spring to arrive and start growing again.

And the best bit? I need to clean the Ranger now!

Eighteen thousand steps, 1.5 m2 of rock and 1 m2 of mulch, DFB is worn out tonight.

Got in my new spoiler to go with my front splitter. Waiting on my side splitters then it’s off to paint!

Got up at 5am. Went for a 150 mile motorcycle ride through Joshua Tree National Park. Drank coffee. Back home in the air conditioning by 8:30am.

Picked up a couple projects.
The crankshaft in my 89 5.0 is messed up, so I can't run the supercharger belt. It can't be repaired either, so I needed a replacement.
Found a couple 5.0 long blocks for sale cheap, so I picked them up yesterday. Cheap as in about 1/2 the cost as just a new crankshaft, I got 2 engines and one engine stand. According to the guy, one could be put back into service with just a head gasket change.
My plan is to attempt a rebuild or 2.
If I can get 1 good engine out of them, I'd be ok with that.
I've never rebuilt an engine beyond swapping short blocks.
I've already gone down the YouTube rabbit hole of engine rebuilds, so I'm an expert now. :D

Even though it was hot outside I worked about 5 hours mowing, edging, trimming etc. I did take a few breaks to cool off. I have had a heat stroke before and they are no fun. About 30 minutes after I finished in the yard it rained like crazy. Good timing.
