Flex XC3401 Changeable Backing Plate System - IN STOCK!

Flex XC3401 Changeable Backing Plate System - IN STOCK!

The Flex XC3401 is known as the Mercedes-Benz of dual action polishers and for good reason - it's the best of the best, bar none. The Flex XC3401 takes on the jobs that were once reserved for rotary polishers because with its direct orbital drive, no swirl stands a chance. Even with all this power and correction ability there is no sacrifice in smoothness or ease of use. The Flex XC3401 not only revolutionized dual action polishers and what they're capable of, it defined a new category.

Lake Country Manufacturing, a company that has been dedicated to researching, developing and manufacturing industry leading polisher accessories and pads since 1977, recently unveiled an engineering breakthrough for the Flex XC3401 known as the Changeable Backing Plate System. The Flex XC3401 Changeable Backing Plate System allows users of the Flex XC3401 to utilize both 4" and 6.5" pads in one easy-to-use three-piece system. We're excited to announce the Flex Changeable Backing Plate System is now in stock ready to ship!

Take your Flex XC3401 to another level with the Flex Changeable Backing Plate System by Lake Country Manufacturing.

    Great news Nick!

I know a lot of people have been waiting for these new backing plates to arrive for shipping...

Back in September, when we first received the prototypes I wrote this article and included a lot of pictures so everyone could see the new backing plates and how they attached, I'll copy the meat of the below thread here now for the same reason...

New 4" and 6" Backing Plates for Flex 3401

These are prototypes Eric Dunn sent me to test and evaluate, we'll be stocking these when the design is finalized and they go into production.

On the left is the 6" backing plate, center is the 4" backing plate and on the right is the interface plate that enables you to switch between either the 6" or the 4" backing plate.

Here's a view of the other side so you can see the ribs for strength, the plate itself is very rigid and this is part of the design that does away with the felt ring.

The protruding tabs lock into the slots on the interface plate and then both are bolted to the spindle.

Here's a shot showing size comparison between the new backing plates on the right and the existing backing plates on the left.

The stock backing plate that comes with the Flex 3401 measures 5 7/16"

The new 6" backing plate actually measures a little larger than 6" inches to full support the back of a 6.5" pad. This dimension is subject to change in the final production versions.

On the left hand side is the factory backing plate on a 6.5" foam pad and the new 6" backing plate on the exact same pad.

The picture is a little deceiving as the outer edge of the backing plate actually extends "almost" to the outer edge of the back of the pad. Again, this dimension is subject to change in the final version. Currently the diameter = 6 7/16"

    Here's the 4 3/8" backing plate on a 5.5" foam pad...

The 4 3/8" backing plate is too large to use safely with a 4" spot repair pad

Here's the new 4" backing plate with a 4" pad

    Ready for some testing...

Here's a few shots of the 4" backing plate with 4" pads in action...

    From this thread,

1969 Camaro Pace Car - Show Car Makeover - Modeled by Michelle

This is you're truly using a 4" PFW pad on a 4" backing plate on the Flex 3401

While they tackled the hood I knocked out the panel in front of the hood and some of the tops of the fenders...

    And this thread,

Using a 4" Tangerine Hydro-Tech Polishing pad to get close to the hood ornamnet...

Used the new 4" backing plate today. It was awesome! Combining the power of a flex 3401 and a 4" pad allowed me to do correction in some tight spots. It's so easy to control even at full throttle.

Also used the optimum Mf cutting pad with the new backing plates, quite pleased with the result.
